FL-T800 Tanks cannot be unlocked

What Happens:After purchased the "Fuel System" tech, FL-T800 fuel tank should be unlockable with some bucks. But in fact, when you go to VAB, you still cannot use it and it says: Part model requires an Entry Purchase in R&D. When you go back to R&D, you will surprisingly see that there is one more option still haven't been purchased, even you have already purchased for the fuel tank. Every time you repeat this procedure (Purchase it, go to VAB, see it is still unavailable, go back to R&D), you will see another FL-T800 Fuel Tank part available for purchase.

Steps to Replicate: I retried it in a brand-new game through console and it won't get solved. Maybe you even don't have to check my save files.

Result:You just cannot use this fuel tank, but this bus seems to even work on FL-T100 fuel tank.

Fixes/Workarounds: Since this seems to be unsolvable unless through console, I gave up.

P.P.S. I didn't found any bug report about this problem. No offense, but, that is weird.

Not weird at all if nobody else is having the problem.

I for example have never experienced it in spite of many many trips through the tech tree.

I know this issue already and if I remember correctly, it is caused by an unclean upgrade process. I spend the last 30min to find the other thread where this issue was discussed but I cannot find it

Some details if you are interested:

During the update from 1.4.x to any higher version of the game, the files for the tank should be moved to "GameData/Squad/zDeprecated" and are replaced by the revamped version of the tank. For some reason, this didn't happen on your install and you ended up with two version of the same tank in your game.

These are two configs for the very same tank called "fuelTank_long" (that's the FL-T800) but just the second one is the correct version for a KSP 1.7.0 install. You can even see it in your screenshot of the TechTree: The icon of the unlocked duplicates actually shows the old tank version. So basically, everytime you pay the entry costs for the tank, you will unlock the old version, not the new one.

 

The easiest way to fix it, would be a clean reinstall of the game. Create a backup of your savegame, uninstall the game, manually remove any remaining files and install it again.
