Cannot load previous games in 1.7 version

Recommended Posts

When I try to load a previous game, opens the window to choose, I select one, but in fact the game does not load, keeping the window of choice open, but in the background the menu changes to the initial one.
This happens since the KSP updated to 1.7, and even starting a new game, after some time and even without leaving the game, if I go back to the start menu and try to load the previous game, it returns to the situation of the previous paragraph .
Attempting to load a persistent.sfs from the backup folder, it fails because it is indexed with a hashkey of the original file in the persistent.loadmeta file, ie backups are useless.
Any suggestion? Or the best is to abandon the game definitively, because with this limitation is impossible to continue?

If you are on steam, go to Library->Right Click Kerbal->Properties->Betas Menu->Select the version your original savegame was->Close.

Try loading the Savegame now, if it all works save the game again, maybe with a different name,

Close the game and go to Betas Menu and Opt out of all Betas so it will update back to 1.7

If the savegame doesnt load might need some more info of whats wrong, any mods although this is the unmodded section.Or i guess more info so someone else can give a better solution.

Thanks Boyster for the quick response.

Unfortunately, I confirmed that the betas program is not activated.

Under the mods, none have been added, and none interact with load / save; it is worth noting that it loads the game well, the problem is that it does not load persistent.sfs nor does it give any error and even in a clean game with only the first technological levels (without active mods) gives this problem. Worse to add, due to a hash to validate the file (and this may be the problem), it is no longer possible to use persisten.sfs backups or use renamed quicksave.

Anyway, this only started to happen after the update for 1.7, until then it had no problem.

An additional note, doing several saves and downloads in the same game, goes to the end of this phenomenon happens, that is, it is not related to the content of the game (mods) but to itself.

I tried one more thing: to use a quicksave.sfs and its quicksave.loadmeta, it does not work. In this case they were saves during the course of the game itself.
Is there any recovery mechanism? If quicksave's and backups do not work, it would be useful if it existed. These mechanisms are useful because this is not a game of arcadia but something that is playing slowly for years.

Make a clean install, load the game, make a new save.

Then open your backup saves folder and copy everything EXCEPT the persistent.sfs files.Go to your new save folder and put those files there.

I guees it might work? Some experimentation there, it has helped someone with a similar problem before.

If it works you will have your save with some things missing but it is a salvage.

Otherwise i have no idea whats happening on your save.Have you installed on a different drive?Maybe some permissions are changed...sry thats my last ideas.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I ran the test, created a new game, copied the backups and quicksaves to the folder.
I ask the load of the quicksave appears in the list the several that I made in the previous game, but unfortunately when selecting to load and pressing the load button, returns to behave identical to the original problem.

It is not only a single save, it happened in the main game and in two others I did test for this problem.
Nothing changed in the system, only the update for 1.7, ran normally the game for days, until then, behaved like this, without any change.
It has no permissions or file location differences, it's the same game without adding something new.
Sincerely since the update of KSP 1.2 onwards, I have only found defects, every time they change appear incompatibilities and instabilities, if their idea is to destroy the game, then let them openly say, that they provide a stable version with no further changes.

I try: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/117655-saved-games-wont-load/ It's not solved.

In KSP.log appear:

[EXC 08:05:37.455] NullReferenceException
    KSCPauseMenu.Dismiss ()
    KSCPauseMenu.onLoadDialogDismiss (System.String path)
    LoadGameDialog.ConfirmLoadGame ()

    UnityEngine.EventSystems.EventSystem:Update()
[EXC 08:05:38.017] NullReferenceException

    UnityEngine.EventSystems.ExecuteEvents.Execute[IPointerClickHandler] (UnityEngine.GameObject target, UnityEngine.EventSystems.BaseEventData eventData, UnityEngine.EventSystems.EventFunction`1 functor)
    UnityEngine.EventSystems.EventSystem:Update()

It's normal?

--------------

Since I do not like to give up ...
I reinstalled the game from Steam, created a new game, made a little evolution of the game, made 3 quicksaves, left for the main menu, tried to load the game from which it had just come out and made the saves, and guess what? It happened again, it does not carry, it does not give error, nothing, exactly the same as always.

Starting a new game:
- 1st game exit and re-entry: ok
- 3rd exit and reentry of the game: the problem, I was able to recover by a backup file and rename it to persistent.sfs
- 4ª Exit and re-entry of the game: the problem manifested itself, I only managed to recover with backup file as in the 3rd exit, but the recent quicksaves already had the problem.

Any suggestions for a new test?

Do you have Steam Cloud Enabled in Kerbal and or in Steam?(Library, Right Click Kerbal, Properties, Updates, Steam Cloud).

If you have steam cloud enabled then thats your problem maybe. It downloads the corrupted saves everytime.

Disable it.

If not then copy the entire ksp folder in a different disk/place and launch the game from the folder/shortcut and not steam.

Thanks Boyster
Unfortunately it had sync enabled. Already turned it off.
I'm going to start the tests:
- create a new game and make rapid progression (with cheats) in order to reach an upgraded point and be able to validate.
- if the previous one fails, I will duplicate the game directory for another drive and try to boot from it and analyze the behavior.
Thank you

--------------------------

I did the tests ....
After upgrading to the latest level of research in Research and Development, the problems began. I made a copy of dir saves / game every time I launch or upgrade.
What I observed in the tests when placing a ship / satellite with these technologies:
- Only writes backup files sporadically
- Started the initial behavior when loading the previous game
- Using the persistent files stored in my previous backup, it loads into this situation, but starts to have the behavior in the quicksaves previously performed. The quicksaves load window is open, it does not respond to CANCEL and even if it goes back to the MAIN MENU it does not close.

Ahhh shame since steam cloud was to blame here.

When you did your old backup did you save the entire ''saves'' folder or only the files inside the ''Backup'' folder.

For future backups make sure you have coppied the whole  ''saves'' folder and everytime before you update the game or a mod make sure you keep a copy.

Although i have no idea what is going on with your game :P , i admire your will to keep going and try to find a solution.Good luck :D .

I saved the whole folder in saves.
Since after recovering via this folder it becomes impossible to use the quicksaves, the game in practice this unusable.
It is for me the end of the KSP, it is only a pity they have been the own company to give that end.
