Hello!
How many times did not try, I still can not fulfill this contract. And looking for from the desired biome. And I return it in a container for science, it still does not count.

Did you find an actual stone on the moon, and stand your Kerbal next to or on it, and right click your Kerbal and pick it up?

Then alt-f12 and complete the contract.

I have never gotten these missions to complete.  I have tried many variations from rovers, to landers, with the lander actually returning to Kerbin never having docked with any other ship, all to no avail.  I have also never gotten the scanning missions to complete. If the root part that gathered the stone is required, then.. that would be the Kerbal's legs?  So.. take the science from the capsule and EVA back on Kerbin, then recover and then maybe it would work?  I will have to try that. Seems pretty stupid to me.

Alt F12 is the only way I've been able to finish these types of missions.
