Is it possible to adjust the angle of two locked docking ports? [Pic link in comment]

Recommended Posts

So I was trying to build this mun base, which i want to assemble in LKO before landing in on the mun. After investing a lot of hours into planing and the first docking, the docking port didint allign and now has this strange angle... can i readjust this or did i love up while building and clipping parts together to much?

Hi @Dezeat, welcome to the forums.

You cannot change the angle at which they are docked while they are docked. What you could do is to undock, align the vessels better, and then dock again. On its own this is not too complicated, but also not that easy for a beginner. An additional complication are the extended solar panels: they are pretty brittle and tend to break when hit with a craft. So while it is possible to undock, re-align, and dock again, the margin for error is pretty slim.

In principle, yes. You can undock and try again until the outcome suits you.

There are several mods to help you with getting the ports properly aligned. In stock, the easiest way is to have a good enough SAS on both vessels and use that to make them point to (anti)normal. That way, SAS takes care of orientation and you only have to worry about translation.

I resist the temptation to give you a long lecture... but two things that you should know about are a) CapsLock enables fine controls, and b) turning on Advanced Tweakables (a stock feature) will allow you to configure your RCS so that it only does translation while pitch/yaw/roll is left to reaction wheels. Both features are extremely helpful when docking.

There is a small mod called DockRotate, which will rotate a pair of docked ports
