Room to Maneuver display

I'm a newbie and I'm having trouble getting Room to Maneuver to work for me. I have version 1.8.0.2686. After launching, I click the new (Ver 1.7) Maneuver Mode button below the staging display. I see values for Apoasis and Periapsis, but only see "LOCKED" where the "Room to Maneuver" video indicates I should see a "Time To" value. This is also true before I launch.

Is there something I'm doing wrong, not doing something I should be doing or do I need more science (I'm at 34), etc.

Everything about KSP has been great and I'm really liking what I've seen so far.

Welcome aboard, @Gadget!  I don't know the details, but I'm fairly sure you need to unlock some building upgrades to get all the information on that new tab.

Yes, look into upgrading the Tracking Station to level 2. It is one of the most important early upgrades, for precisely the reasons of getting better information about your current flight.

Generally, whenever you think "I should be able to do this, but it doesn't seem to work", and you are playing career, chances are very high that it's locked behind a building upgrade. Such things include: making maneuver nodes, going EVA, pumping resources around, seeing random asteroid spawns...

I think that to unlock all that stuff, you need to upgrade both your Mission Control and Tracking Station to Level 2.

Thanks for everybody's help. I had time to upgrade Tracking and that resolved the LOCKED issue.  I'll try Mission Control as soon as I can
