Problem with space shuttle

It's the novapunch remix pack that I linked above. A pretty cool collection of stuff.

Thanks :-)

Speaking about 0.17 I'm dying to test it, but I hope that my old rocket*will fly.

To be honest, more than flights to other planets, I'm interested in the space station, I hope that someday we will can assemble the space station in orbit, such as Mír or ISS, if we could be build also working space shuttle with docking port would be a dream come true :)

Notice how the orbiter main engines are tilted so that the thrust axis goes right through the center of the external tank. This means the balance does not change as the tank empties out. So what we need is a way to put three gimballed engines on the back of a fuselage, and have them tilted upwards.

Yep, this is exactly the problem with using stock parts. The default gimbal on any of the stock engines isn't big enough either, even if you use the tricoupler to put 3x on the back of a shuttle.

That was the major hurdle I had to solve in my shuttle mod:

The main engines there are permanently vectored like 15 degrees, and then they have an additional range of "gimbal" for balance control (as the stack weight shifts, due to spending fuel and dropping SRBs, it needs to adjust.) Note that it can lift the whole package without a tank engine.

I'm pretty close to releasing the updated Tiberdyne pack actually, when I do you can load it up and see how it works.

And the links to Novapunch (my rocket pack) and Tiberdyne Shuttles is in my signature.

I want to see your shuttle fly and land. It'll take some work but It'll be great to see a stock shuttle go through a full circuit.

Thanks :-)

Once I builded, the space plane which has reached more than 120 km, during one test even 130 km. It will be great if I can transfer that project from SPH to VAB

I think our problem is that we are lacking a special part that would make shuttles work properly.

Take a close look at the launching shuttle in profile.

Use Shift+WASD to adjust the default angle of engines while placing them! It operates in multiples of 10degrees which is a limitation, but with careful design it should get you close enough.

Unfortunately, this very handy technique is not always available. Yes, I did try to attach the engines using shift-WASD. But the fuselage joint faces only accept connections at the node, and parts can rotate but not tilt.

So I used this old trick instead:

It still crashes. But it crashes less immediately. This looks sort-of like progress, sort-of.
