Locked docking ports?

I put two standard docking ports next to each other, and when I tried to undock it said "Status: Locked." I checked a few times to make sure the ports were in line and oriented correctly, and they were, but it still wasn't working? Any ideas?

It sounds like you're trying to do it on a craft that you have no control over.  Do you have a screenshot?

Thanks. I don't have any screenshots, but I have plenty of crew modules and probe cores on the parts that will undock, so I'm not sure if that's the issue.
