parashute don"t work

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the forum @aashestakov,

By default the parachutes will only open if you are flying slow enough for it to be safe to do so. If the parachutes stay red all the way down in the staging information (bottom left of screen) you are moving too fast to deploy. If this is so all is not lost as there are a few ways to de-orbit that might help to slow you down a bit more like coming in at a shallower angle (so that you spend more time in the atmosphere).

Looks like you launched straight up in the sky, that's a huge mistake.
Parachutes don't open in the second you activate them, this will just set them to be "armed" but you still need to reach a certain altitude, atmospheric pressure and speed for the chute to actually deploy. If any of these checks fails, the chute will not deploy or will be ripped apart (if you allow the chute to deploy while it's unsafe or risky).

Even though the parachute symbol is grey at the moment you activate it, you'll gain way too much speed on your way down so you will be too fast for the parachute to open safely as soon as you reach an altitude, where the parachute is supposed to deploy. Try to fly at an angle instead, maybe even reduce the thrust and fuel of the flea in the editor so you don't gain as much speed and height in the first place.
Flying at an angle will stretch out the trajectory, so you spend more time in the thicker parts of the atmosphere to slow down before the parachute can take care of your vessel.

It works in the tutorial because it still uses the old flea engine instead of the updated one. I'm not sure if the new one is supposed to be better but using the new version will allow the vessel to gain additional ~11km height (23km vs 12km) while flying straight up. This causes your vessel to accelerate more while falling back towards the ground and therefore your chute will not open.

Drag that top slider over to the left.  In your current situation they should pop out around ~8000 m (0.2 atm).  All the way to the left should deploy them anywhere below ~20000 m (0.04 atm).

Also, click on SAS (CAC in your language) on the NavBall and use the WASD keys to aim retrograde :retrograde: and you should slow down a lot more since you won't be falling pointy-end-first.
