Space Plane Steering Left

Recommended Posts

Hi, I commonly see my SSTO’S steering left even though I am not holding down any keys. It mostly happens to all my craft that I put on the runway. Now I don’t know if it has something to do with the aerodynamic forces hitting the craft at a certain angle. Does anyone else have the same problem or is it just me.

This is a very common problem with spaceplanes. It is common enough that it is listed in the FAQ on this particular forum.

However, there are a number of conditions that cause it, and a number of things that can rectify it, depending on the exact cause.

My first suggestion is always to note that passive stability comes from having "low drag at the front, and high drag at the back." This is true in flight, as well as on the ground. So, to keep your plane going straight on the ground, I usually suggest going into the SPH and adjusting the "friction" on the front wheel of your plane. Click the button to change it from "auto" to "Manual" -- then adjust the slider to reduce the friction to .5 or less.

Oh, okay thanks!
