Anomaly Question - with RoveMate

Recommended Posts

So, I'll try to do this without giving away anything...

I had a RoveMate in spaaaaace - and I used it to triangulate several Anomalies.  Flying there in a plane, with a RoveMate attached, I discovered that there's a good reason to triangulate, as there is a bit of a distance from what you plot in space and what you might hope to find.  Needless to say, I spotted a something of interest at two of the locations I'd plopped waypoints over.  So I flew over it, scanning with the Kerbnet overlay active and refreshing every 3.5 seconds.

To my surprise, while I could clearly see an anomalous something of interest - which I flew over several times - my plane mounted RoveMate which was accurately tracking along and telling me about the biomes... did not give me a question mark to use for a real-fine waypoint.

...

Any reason for that?  Do the probe cores need to be at a particular altitude to register an Anomaly?  (i.e. why would the RoveMate not mark out a '?' when I flew directly over the thing I was looking for?)

The ? for an anomaly is deliberately slightly inaccurate. Usually from about 300 meters to slightly over 2km.

That is also my experience. Usually the waypoint that you can mark from orbit is good enough so that you can spot the anomaly from the air / during the landing burn. But some monoliths are *bleep*ing well hidden, especially on the Mun. I had it a few times that I got the message: "You found a new monolith, here have some money" and I thought: "Well, O.K. It has to be somewhere here. But where?!?";)
