Causal KSP Missions

 

Simple Missions that I want to do.

No stories, no grinding, no mods.

Technically played in Career mode. 5,000 starting science to have enough parts to make things look cool. Max Rep and Funds payouts. Default Science payout.

Mission 2: Lunch and Assembly of the Orbital Science Station

A real Space Station in orbit.

Launch of Part 1 of the OSS (Orbital Science Station)

Main stage will fall back to Kerbin.

Once the Station Core is placed in orbit, the transfer stage will return to Kerbin.

 

Transfer Stage is Fully recoverable.

Part two is the habitation module.

The Station will be assembled by this service craft that came up with the Station Core.

And connection.

Again, the transfer stage is fully recoverable.

Launch 4... Yes 4. I should have taken pictures of launch 3. it was a spectacular failure.

The service craft couldn't guide the original parts into place.

So the solar panel arms had to be redesigned to fly themselves.

Mission 3: Delivery of the Station Crew and Satellite service

Adding crew to the OSS.

Launching of 2 Kerbin Return Vehicles, @ crew members for the OSS, and a crew to visit the Orbital Science Satellite.

As always, the main booster will fall back to Kerbin.

Yoko, Sam, and Kaioti Approaching the Orbital Science Satellite. There was a flaw in its design. It didn't have enough battery to send all data. Unfortunately the thing started spazing out.

At this point it was deemed too dangerous to continue the approach.

Mission 4: Actually Science on the Orbital Science Station

 

After the Failure that was the Orbital Science Satellite, it has been decided to send a reusable Science suite directly to the OSS.

The rocket used was a 2 stage unrecoverable thing.

Here the second stage is separating from the main lift vehicle.

Once nearly in orbit, the science module releases from the second stage and attempts rendezvous with the OSS.

Rendezvous.

Now that the OSS has actual science to study, the module can return to Kerbin.

Reentry is easy when you have spare fuel.

The module can now be striped for parts and reused.

Sent satellites and a rover to the mun. Worked better than expected.

I Calls it a Lollypop Rocket. It is terrible.

Second Stage, transfer/sky crane, and 4 satellites.

Release of the Satellites. I didn't take pictures of positioning them. Kind of redundant.

I had fully expected to run out of fuel and this image to be a crash. Pleasantly surprised.

Mission 6: Minmus Satellite Network and Rover [Semi-Failure]

Sent Satellites and a Rover to Minmus... Sooo many Mistakes.

With the Mun launch being a wild success. We launched a Sat network and Rover to Minmus. One major design change was to eliminate the Lollipop payload.

Lunch went well and I'm loving the new skins from the recent update.

Separation of the main stage.

That fairing is sooo cool.

Launching the Satellites. Only now did I realize there is only one solar panel. Not sure what happened.

On descent we realized there is no way to separate the transfer stage.

While a controlled crash was required to land, the rover deployment system had been damaged somewhere in the mission.

Reaction wheels had been forgotten in the initial design phase. Here is an image of the rover uncontrollable rolling downhill.

With solar panel damaged the rover only managed to send a few bits of data before going silent.

Mission 7: Mun Scanning Satellite

Scanning Satellite for determining a Kerbal Landing Site on the Mun.

Successful Launch. The solid fuel boosters weren't working in the first test flight. Not enough Gimbling going on.

Booster Separation. Always one of my favorite stages.

Separation of the Main Launch Vehicle.

Deploying of the fairing. I like the clam shell better. Forgot to switch it.

While screwing with the separation in anticipation for the shot, Kerbin was setting in the back ground. the shot was rushed and I wasn't able to get the perfect shot.

The Scanning Satellite in full action. Kerbin peeking around the Mun. I love these booms.

Mission 8: To Da Mun and Back

Landed a crewed mission on the Mun.

A bit funny looking, but it launched well.

Didn't have enough fuel to crash this into the Mun. Was running a little tight so I just let it fly off to orbit the sun.

Deploying Science stuff. This is my first time using this stuff in an actual game.

With Sam back on the ship, Kaioti and Tyler take the buggy out for a joy ride.

A wildly successful mission.

Mission 9: It’s Probin' Time

Probes sent to Duna, Ike, Eve, Gilly, and Moho.

Two I identical rockets were launched.

Booster separation is still one of my favorite parts.

Dropping the payload (the Probe) into orbit.

Originally designed to land back on Kerbin, both lift vehicles failed and crashed.

I love that engine plate skirt stuck on there. Looks cool.

Fly-by of Ike. What happened to that skirt?

Used experiments where sent into the planet. Above is a pretty picture of Duna, the sun, and Ike.

Meanwhile, further in the gravity well. The other Probe has hit Eve.

There was even enough Delta V and science equipment to place the probe in orbit around Moho. Damn those Ion Engines are efficient, and sooooo slow!

Mission 10: Minmus

A manned Mission to Minmus and Back

The first SSTO ship that actually has the ability to get a payload into orbit.

Fun fact, ran out of fuel 5km from the SSTO. Fortunately Tyler was piloting the SSTO and managed to get close enough.

Dropping of the boosters is still my favorite part.

This was suppose to be a nice shot, but one of the fairings caught on the craft and it looks funky.

And there goes the whole Duna-Ike science package.

Fast forward to orbit around Ike.
