Contract problem

What do I need to do to meet solar orbit contract?  I'm getting flying past, but never get the solar orbit contract condition set.

Unfortunately it's very hard to guess what exactly you mean from just that short description. Could you take a screenshot (F1) of the contract in question and post it here? imgur.com is a good free image hoster you can use.

Perhaps also a screenshot in the tracking station, focused on the spacecraft your're trying to complete the contract with?

Do you need to only get onto an orbit around the sun, or onto a specific orbit around the sun? If it is the former and you only get "fly by the sun", then you need to get onto an orbit that doesn't intersect the SOI of any planet.

   I haven't had time to test it yet, but your explanation makes sense.  On this type of contract I fly the tourists until the craft leaves Kerbin SOI, then immediately target Kerbin and burn towards the target until I get an close encounter.    I'm certain the solar orbit intersects Kerbin SOI, so I don't get the orbit around the sun contract condition.

If you look at the description its either solar orbit / fly by the sun like for tourists. Other times it might be an specific solar orbit typically inside Eve orbit making it much harder.
