Mouse not working except to control camera

It's been a long time (years) since I played KSP, but in the past I was able to use the left/right click to do things like change focus to the moon, make changes to the flight plan by clicking on the flight path in map mode and etc. Now when I left or right click nothing happens. The only thing I can use the mouse for in map mode during a flight is to control the camera. There also doesn't seem to be any way to change the inputs for these things. Does anyone have any insight on how to make flight adjustments?

Is this a career game and have you unlocked the tier 2+ tracking station?   That is required for maneuver node editing.
