Cannot delete maneuver node (Control Locked)

Recommended Posts

In the past I've seen this message sporadically after completing a maneuver, but usually it goes away after I unselect the node, then re-selecting it and trying again. Today it is NOT going away. I've cleared the Input Locks; and I've tried restarting the game, no luck. I need to resolve this move on.

Update: After restarting the game two more times and clearing the Input Locks, I was FINALLY able to get the control node to delete. But this keeps happening, and I'd like to be able to avoid having to clear the input locks each time. Any suggestions?

"Control Locked" means you don't have control of the ship. Generally this means you don't have a pilot on board, and no communications to Kerbin.

I expect all the extra stuff you did only allowed your ship to orbit long enough to re-achieve communications.

Interesting ... I'll start keeping an eye out for that. This is the first time I've flown a ship without a pilot, just AI, and I don't have any commsats set up, so that might very well be it. But in the past there's always been at least one pilot on board. Thank you very much!

If you have CommNet switched on, look in the top left of the screen- if there’s no signal and the little probe icon is yellow or red, you don’t have enough/any control over the craft and so can’t delete nodes. If it’s yellow then you should still be able to use SAS modes and all or nothing throttle control, but if it’s red then you’ve got no control at all- this only happens if you run out of power or have ‘require signal for control’ turned on and no signal back to Kerbin (or the home planet of planet packs that replace the stock system).

I think you can make or delete nodes with any Kerbal aboard, but I might be wrong and it might only be pilots who can do that rather than scientists or engineers.

It's pilots/comms only. What engineers and Scientists allow is using SAS with a probe core without comms. They can steer, and the probe core can hold a heading, so it works just like you have a pilot or comms for SAS steering. It "feels" like you're getting away with gaining a pilot ability but really it's just how the two things happen to work together.

Neither an Engineer/Scientist nor a commsless probe core can affect maneuver nodes, so even together they still can't.

  • 4 years later...

I've run into this issue several times.  Just happened today.

I have a level 2 pilot, DSN 3, and at the mun so couldn't figure it out.  Went to space center and back, that didn't do it.  Went to KSC and back... Saves... none worked.

Then I did the Alt F12 and cleared locks twice... now it's working.
