Jet Engines work on eve!

Aerideyn

Recommended Posts

I bolted on a couple jet engines during descent of my eve lander and they worked just fine, fired up to 100% efficiency.

That should simplify our return trip a bit,

land on eve with a space plane then when you want leave again use the jet engines to leave the thicker part of the atmosphere using barely any fuel and then complete the orbital insertion with some regular rockets.

It would be a huge space plane to include the engines and fuel to make the trip back home again so maybe a rendezvous with a nuclear powered ship in an eve parking orbit would be most practicle.

Anyway, this should open up a few options :)

My current design will (when I can it far enough into orbit) get to Eve, land using parachutes, take off with jet engines, switch to aerospike engines for leaving, switch to NERVAs for Kerbin return, and land using parachutes. My two problems: I can't quite get the Eve lander far enough, and it often explodes. I haven't tested the lander either.

Could someone confirm? I want to know if atmospheric engines (including the Damned Aerospace pack) works on Eve - combined with docking, Kethane and the fuel transfer those mods allow, that's potentially one VERY complex and interesting mission.

Edit: Confirmed here: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/21251-17-Planet-information
