Mod folders cannot be deleted

Recommended Posts

Earlier this month I downloaded RealPlume, and yesterday when 1.11 came out, I decided to flush my mods folder to wait for them to update. Unfortunately when I tried deleting RealPlume a pop-up said that I needed administrator access to delete the folder. When I hit 'Continue', it said that I needed permission from another user to delete it, even though my current user has administrator access. I tried to look up the user's name in my pc but it came up with nothing.

Is there any way to fix this or am I stuck in non-functional realplume hell?

The joy of Windows' UAC...

If you know what you're doing: disable UAC as well as the setting "Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode" and reboot your PC.

For details  see here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/identity-protection/user-account-control/user-account-control-group-policy-and-registry-key-settings

That's hard do believe... see, I'm working as Windows system engineer for 25 years, and this is one of the most common issues users have, we deal with such stuff on a daily basis.

For Windows 10, if you both disable UAC (Slider down to the lowest position) as well as  disable the setting "Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode" (either via GUI usind gpedit.msc, or directly in the registry)

Spoiler

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"EnableLUA"=dword:00000000

there can't be any more such warnings preventing you from deleting a folder. Of course, a reboot may be required after changing these settings.

In general, I recommend to install and run KSP not in a folder below Program Files or Program Files (x86) but for example in a folder like D:\KSP, this way avoiding any potential interference from Windows.
