Big Carrier Aircraft

Been experimenting with large carrier aircraft lately, and think I come up with some neat ideas.

People carrying securely without a crew capsule

Drive-on/off Carrying of entire vehicles inside an aircraft

Picking up of crates using the ORDA mod (Warp clamp was tested, it doesn't produce enough force for this to work)

Heres a teaser:

Amazing.

I like how you used Carts for landing gear. I never thought of doing that.

The best feature of them is the fact you can move the aircraft around on the ground. Though the Ironclad is a complete pig to move around as the carts tend to want to crabsteer the whole thing, but it works real well on the box-o-plane. The biggest problem with cart landing gear is it can be a little wobbly at times.

Another bonus is being able to get off the runway safer, but carts aren't always perfect for this. (hence the ramp, as if you put a lot of load on a cart stuff will break)

I experimented with carts for landing gear before, but I see you have run into the same issue where you cannot really turn so effectively, since they each turn individually. May I suggest putting rotatrons on the bottom?

From what I've read and missed on this issue, is that you can turn off steering on individual modules to avoid this problem. So I'll try that in the future. Though if you could reverse the direction of the cart and steer from the back that would probably be more useful, I'm thinking of CFG editing a copy of the standard cart for that purpose.

Very nice - I've played with carriers (in 0.15, unreleased due to 0.16 update), including one similar to the last one in the video for transporting a Bigtrak (pre-docking mod, so use-once only!), but never got to making a completely enclosed bay - too laggy.

You should put a docking clamp inside the cargo bay for the onboard carts to lock to (maybe mounted on their nose?), to stop them rattling around inside.

I built a similar craft. I suppose in mine there wasn't enough space for the tanker to tumble around in its bay, but it didn't go sliding up and down the length of the plane because its handbrake was on.

Not a lot of call for docking clamps to be used, especially given the faff they require to work.
