Kerb24
I think that a good idea for multiplayer would be a space race mode where every player has a different space center and would get more rewards from missions if that mission completes a milestone before any other player. I have nothing else to add to this idea.
Ember12
From what I've heard, a lot of people are hoping for something like this. I don't think that I personally would enjoy it, but it's a cool idea and enough people like it that I think it has a decent chance of being included. For those who approve of it, the only issue that I see is balancing play time differences. If you can only play 1 hour a day and there's someone in your server who can play 4 hours a day, they'll be able to completely outdo you.
t_v
I think there is a virtually inexhaustible supply of good game mode types, so instead of only implementing a selection of the best, the devs would do best by allowing for fully customizable game modes, allowing for editing of everything from control mechanics of craft to the grouping of players and their permissions (Mission Control game mode anyone?). However, there are a lot of different things to consider, so full customizability might be in the realm of a mod. Personally, I would like to see a Capture the Flag game mode. Players would group into teams and would select a starting location, anywhere from a massive space center on a planet to a tiny space station in the middle of nowhere (starting with no tech nodes, so small colonies are hard to survive with). Teams would have to balance expansion of their space programs and stealth, as all the other teams can use telescopes (usually for discovering planets) to track vessels and stations to try to pin down the original base location. Landing a craft near a flag picks it up and once a player has gathered all flags in their home base they win. They can move the flags across their empire if they need to, or hide opponents' flags in small outposts instead of collecting them in one place. The Aziz
It's less of an issue if servers are hosted locally. You with friends set up yourselves for 2 hour session and play, then say goodbye and server is off.

If anything, it just lets people with more play time get farther ahead.
