My Gimbal keeps breaking in space Help!

Alright, Whenever i go out into space/ a different planet, my gimbal breaks, what i mean by this is i cant drive rovers or control the direction my engines propel me, i can only change the throttle, however on kerbin its fine, please help me fix this!

I think the issue is that you don't have a commnet connection. You need some antennae and some relays or you need to turn off commnet in difficulty.

While I voted for @Rutabaga22's answer, one other thing to check is the controls you are using for flight.  Sometimes, for an unknown reason, mapping can get messed up.  I know that I have altered my own keyboard mapping so that rover controls are far different from the actual flight controls because I found that sometimes things just didn't work.

However, Rutabaga there is probably 150% on the money with antenna and commnet connections.  If you don't have a pilot onboard, you'll need antenna with LOS to Kerbin.

A few things to check:

• Got power? No power = no control, make sure you have batteries and some form of power generation (solar panels, fuel cells or RTGs) to keep them charged up.
• Got command? If you have CommNet switched on, you'll need a signal back to a ground station on Kerbin to have full control. A few different settings can affect this- enabling extra ground stations makes it much easier to have a signal, while enabling "require signal for control" means you need a signal or nothing will work at all. Make sure you have an antenna powerful enough to reach back to Kerbin and a line of sight to one of the ground stations, which may require a relay satellite of some sort to cover the blind spots in low Kerbin orbit or when other bodies are between your vessel and Kerbin. You can turn CommNet off and ignore this problem.
• Is the probe core on hibernate mode? This disables control to save power, make sure it's not hibernating when you want to use it; it's a good idea to enable "hibernate in warp" mode on every probe core you use as hibernation saves a lot of power.
