QUESTION about kerbal inventories. the cargo parts became darker?

I recently downloaded the most recent version of parallax visual mod, and it had some flashy ground glitches. I reset the settings for ksp in the main menu settings, and then all of a sudden, all my kerbals' inventories contain dark looking versions of the parachute and eva jetpack! I uninstalled ALL my mods, and reset the settings, but the dark parts persisted. I have researched everywhere on this problem, but found nothing at all. here is a screenshot showing what I mean:
Actually, never mind. as soon as I wrote this question, the problem utterly disappeared, and I was unable to get a screenshot.
Any idea what this is caused by?
