What to study to learn something more advanced in programming?

Hi, I'm a bit lost, I'd like to learn some more useful things in programming besides building a desktop application, I'd like to learn something more useful like those programs that solve more complex problems on the computer or manipulate elements of it, like the app unlock that basically manages to delete any app from your pc regardless of permissions restriction, the live wallpaper that you get by a gif running in the background of your pc or the dependencies wallker that screens a program and tells you which libraries it uses, which area of programming you should study to learn this kind of thing? is there any topic?

have you ever tried embedded development? socs and microcontrollers and the like. very few resources to work with, requiring very low level (or at least close to the metal) programming.

i tried playing with fpgas but they broke my brain. i also didn't know what to do with it, they are usually used for integrating larger systems, but it was hard to find an exciting application for them as a hobbyist and just seemed like a solution looking for a problem well outside of my capabilities.

i suppose you could also get into ai dev, that's currently cutting edge and could very well turn into a lucrative career. so get in on it early.

there is also quantum programming if you want to be on an even more cutting edge.

If you have the time you could mentor or join a nearby robotics team. Some of the biggest ones are the First Robotics Competition, the First Tech Challenge, and the Vex Robotics Competition, and there are many ways to find teams near you. I had the same problem- what do you do with programming skills?- and this is one of the most fun and rewarding things to do.
