KSP crashing midway through startup after (supposedly) clean reinstall

Wasn't sure whether to post this in the unmodded or modded sections, but I'm doing a clean reinstall from a heavily modded instance so I assumed it'd best fit here.
I've tried to do a clean reinstall of KSP several times, but every time I do it keeps crashing halfway through loading for a reason I can't find in the .log file. The only thing I can think of is that I was unable to delete a .dll for MonoBleedingEdge during reinstallation, mono-2.0-bdwgc.dll specifically.  I've deleted all CKAN files and verified my files after deletion, but the problem keeps propping up.

Are you on Steam?  I have heard that enabling the Steam cloud causes new installs to be loaded from old saves including mods.
