Green Lads in High Lands

Introduction:

Heyo, so this is a mission report thread for my sandbox playthrough with some roleplay restrictions(i.e. tech comes gradually). My goal for this playthrough is to colonize most of the kerbol system as well as playthrough niako's other worlds mod which adds a whole new star system with a legit story mode, how I report on those missions will come later. Now I am no writer by any means so bear with me, I just like to share my playthrough with anyone interested since I enjoy coming up with lore to go with my kerbal playthroughs. A lot of this really is shenanigans so there's not a lot of thought put through.

Chapter 1: The Beginning

Spoiler

Ever since the dawn of kerbalkind, they've dreamt of reaching for the stars. How exactly to do that, well, they had no idea. But one day, a kerbal named Jebediah Kerman, owner and CEO of Jeb's Junkyard, put together a flying machine dubbed the Jeb Flyer took flight above Kerbin.

Jeb continued to improve the aircraft designs until settling on a biplane design capable of taking off and landing safely. It was also capable of traversing far distances on a single tank of fuel.

Another kerbal named Wernher von Kerman successfully tests the first ever liquid fueled rocket in the middle of the desert.

After this successful test, Wernher partnered up with Jeb's Junkyard to put together a larger rocket dubbed the JV-2 which managed to escape the atmosphere of Kerbin proving outer space is real via a barometer. Von Kerman would continue to push for funding of a space program to explore this unknown frontier.

North of Jeb's Junkyard, a new facility called Black Sands Test Range has opened by a the company C7 Aerospace Division. The purpose of this test range is to develop and test new aircraft using Jeb's methods. Many test pilots are recruited to pilot these crafts that may or may not work.

Jet engines come about, but kerbals have yet to break the sound barrier. The sound barrier is the speed of sound and no kerbal will ever be able to break it in one piece.

mSMhTU1.png

That was until Jebediah Kerman himself offered to pilot the MK-1 dropped by a carrier plane and successfully broke through the sound barrier and landed safely.

Breakthroughs in jet engine technology continue to proceed with this standard test pilot trainer craft.

The latest high altitude jet has a two wheel design which requires great balance upon takeoff and takeoff.

The MK-15 is an evolved design of supersonic aircraft dropped by carrier aircraft designed to go far faster than sound can go and high into the Kerbin atmosphere.

Most of these aircraft test from Black Sands don't go as planned, most kerbals perish, but others safely eject and parachute to safety.

Meanwhile, Jebediah Kerman was given a pitch for a space center called "The Jebediah Kerman Center for Kerbals Who Can’t Fly Good and Who Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too."

He claimed, "“How can we be expected to teach Kerbals to learn how to fly if they can’t even fit inside the building?”

Then proceeded to destroyed the model.

That is all that has happened up until now. To be continued in the next chapter...

Chapter 2: Dawn of the Space Program

Spoiler

With the advancements of aircraft technology, the Kerbin government allocated funds to constructing civilian airports for fast intercontinental travel.  Bloeting offered to develop these jet powered civilian aircraft that would be operated by Trans Kerbin Airlines.

After Jebediah Kerman destroyed the space center model, Wernher was able to convince Jeb that the real space center would indeed be 3x bigger than the model, and he was able to agree.

The two of them had an idea of putting a small metallic orb so high up and so fast sideways that it would constantly sling around Kerbin with no need of propulsion. They just needed funding, but they had a plan.

So the two of them went onto Kerb Tank to seek out funding.

Not long after securing the funding, the Kerbal Space Center was fully operational and the Kerbal Space Program was born. The purpose of the KSP is to develop rockets and airplanes fit for space exploration and uncover the secrets of the Kerbol System.

Engine test fires were underway preparing for the first launch of the Tron 1 rocket.

The Tron 1 would be a general workhorse for the first few launches with the larger Tron 2 replacing it.

Although the first few Tron 1 launches didn't go as planned, it did eventually work out.

And the first metal orb, Bean 1, made it into orbit. It confirmed this orbit by sending constant beeps down to the tracking stations scattered around the planet.

After the success of Bean 1, two more missions were launched as well as an ablative heatshield test for returning objects back from orbit.

After 3 Bean launches and a heatshield launch, the new Tron 2 launched for the first time with the start of a satellite constellation that would bring internet to the whole globe dubbed KerbNet.

With many KerbNet launches planned, KSP officials asked what's next? The Mun? Are we ever putting kerbals up there? And who will they be?

Only time will tell...

Chapter 3: The Moho Seven

Spoiler

After several launches of the Tron 2 rocket, Wernher had a crazy idea of sending a probe past the Mun to see the dark side. The rocket was surely capable of enough, but was it possible?

dR6iLOX.png

And so they did, they launched it.

sUgcaTV.png

And to their surprise, IT MADE IT! The dark side of the Mun! This proved that not only was their another side of the Mun, but sending a craft there is possible.

FJMdOId.png

After the success of the Muna 1 probe, tests of a new rocket were underway, The Muo 1. This rocket is slightly larger than the Tron 2, but far more capable in payload size, if it worked. Engineers are still working out the kinks.

KplxOfT.png

But the most important news for the Kerbal Space Program, is the selection of the first kerbonauts. Sending probes to space is cool and all, but it's about time we see if we can launch a kerbal on top of one of these rockets to space and even the Mun. So Wernher and Jeb took a plane out to Black Sands to select seven of the best test pilots there.

jjgruyX.png

These test pilots would be brought from Black Sands and stationed at the Kerbal Space Center to undergo training for a mission to space.

oEuLL1s.png

This training would include high G jet training, parachute training, survival training, and more.

Malcom Kerman

Calrey Kerman

Barrod Kerman

Kirk Kerman
