I think it’d be good if you went back to the VAB by yourself and the flight report was it’s own little tab in the UI. It doesn’t get in the way of the cool booms but you can still look at it if you want.

Or even a little blinking 'message waiting' icon in the lower left corner. 

By making it so big, placing it prominently in the screen - and making it instantaneous they're taking the kerbal out of Kerbal
