Items disappear during EVA construction?

I hate EVA construction, but I have to use it now because I forgot to put docking ports on a miner that I made so that I can put ships to refuel on top of it. But, when I try to put the docking ports on the ground to speed up placing them, it just disappeared in thin air. I don't have any quicksaves, so this is extremely annoying. I have two docking ports attached radially to my lander, in case that helps.

 

EDIT: I saw in the log (alt+f12) that the parts "crashed into the terrain"?

KSP2 has EVA construction?

I don't own it (yet) but I don't recall seeing that anywhere.
