I'm so totally hooked already

I was playing EVE Online when a guy first told me about KSP. His discription was vague and unintresting but i gave it a look anyways. Boy was I glad I did. I purchased the full game before I even tried the demo when I seen an active forum and modding community I knew it was safe to have high hopes for this game. Last night after I downloaded I played around with making a space plane. Tonight I made a simple two stage solid rocket and I am currently 75,000m above kerbel enjoying the view from space. I'm pretty sure I can't reenter the atmosphere without burning up, but I got half a tank of liqiud left on my module and im gonna go for it. I knew I should have fit that pilot assist thingy as im now spinning wildly :) Anyways, I thought I'd come on and say hello to all you since I'm positive I'll be around for a while. God I love this game!!

My solution -- don't start using MechJeb. At least not right away. Download MechJeb only after you're completely familiar with orbital mechanics and know you can pilot any mission manually. Because otherwise you'll find yourself forever relying on a computer to do everything for you. And that's...well...boring.

Good luck in your travels through the vacuum of space and welcome to KSP.

Why do we even bother having choices? Obviously, your idea of boring and fun applies perfectly to people you don't even know...

Play how you want. Some people find they like to build and launch rockets more than to pilot them by the seat of their pants, and that's fine. MechJeb can make a great tool in helping you learn how to pilot, especially if you use the data readouts  but watching its autopilot can also be useful in properly circularizing and achieving orbit. You will, of course, have to take the throttle yourself and experiment with it. MechJeb's autopilot is largely useless in interplanetary transfers, for example...

Welcome to the KSP community.

You can't burn up at this time since aerobraking heat has not been implemented yet. It will be sometime in the future, tho...

Welcome to the community. :)

Yeah, I made it back safe and sound :) went back and made a few tweeks and now I'm out of kerbin orbit with no fuel lol. I'm thinking rescue mission. got a lot to figure out

IMHO he's right. I think people should learn how to orbit and fly manually before falling back to mechjeb. I don't really like mechjeb, but I don't have issues with other people using it, however there are lots of situations where it will just get you in trouble.. I've seen ships that are able to be put in orbit fine when flown manually, but mechjeb will crash every time. And when those instances come up, how do you determine if mechjeb is the problem or not, if you don't know how to orbit manually to test the ship without mechjeb?

Knowing how to manually get to orbit, adjust your orbit, and de-orbit are NOT bad skills for anyone who plays KSP to have...

Yea. I learned how to do an orbit by looking at the instruments.

But anyways, welcome. And let's hope you won't be frustrated by the game.
