Reported Version: v0.1.3 (latest) | Mods: none | Can replicate without mods? Yes
OS: Windows 11 | CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-core Processor | GPU: NVIDEA GeForce RTX 3060 | RAM15.91GB

I mentioned it to Nate while he was in chat, but I figured I'd make an actual report.
It is not so much a bug, more a feature request for 3 things, that are somewhat the same / strongly related..

1. The new extending engines cannot be viewed in the VAB in extended mode. This is problematic for building a lander with those engines, as you have no clue how far the nozzle will extend, and thus how low the legs have to go. (Will the nozzle go to red light, yellow, blue? I don't know, I just have to guess now)

2. The AIRBRAKES don't have a preview mode for deploy (angle).
In KSP 1 you could preview this and set the angle and immediately see what this looked like. The same counts for normal wings/control surfaces, which don't show a preview of the deploy angle. I think it's a really valuable feature that's missing.

2b. On the note of AIRBRAKES. They currently only work on deploy mode, but in KSP 1 they also did SAS/authority. I am unsure if this is intended or a bug. I'm sure we'd all like it to return, and be a toggle-able option, like it is with wings.

I haven't checked but can you fire up the engine while it's retracted? If yes then there you are, treat it as "landing mode".
Though I do agree that seeing all states is important, regardless of part.

As best as I can tell, you can't run the engine with it in retracted mode.  When you activate it, it extends.  When you deactivate it, it retracts again.

Yes, this is how it behaves.

Real world RL10 extends and then fires and has no option to shut off, so KSP2 is already more advanced ;)
