why is f5 not quick saving?!?!?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I've been playing ksp for a couple of months now and I can't get the f5 quick save method to work. I have added a few visual and technical mods such as ksp engineer and EVE but nothing more. I can press escape and then manually make a save with a name and then load that save later, but I really want to use the f5 and f9 quick save and load method. Whenever I hold f5 nothing happens and whenever I hold f9 it loads some random save I made months ago and don't even remember. I tried adjusting the difficulty settings in the pause menu, but they say I have quick saving aloud. Any clue what's happening?

Last time this happened to me, I had created a new savegame with a name damned near another one that I had there, and some files ended up on the wrong directory.

For example, "Save 10" and "save 10" on my rig (MacOS with APDF Case Senstitive) are two different directories, but since KSP uses Unity's "URLs" for anything, and these URLs are case insensitive, they had to code some shenanigans to allow this crap to work, and sometimes these shenanigans backfire.

Unity make things even worse by replacing some characters to "." on the URL, creating even more opportunities for confusion.

Check your "save" directory in your KSP and see if there's another savegame with a similar name.

Additionally - do you bought KSP from Steam? If yes, did you bypassed the PD Launcher? If yes, how? The "hackish" way of changing the Steam command launcher to pinpoint the KSP.exe is backfiring badly, because it launches KSP from a different directory it expects, and this ends up making parts of KSP writing and reading files from the wrong place.
