low part count rocket parts (extreme and reasonable)

Recommended Posts

I know the following is a little extreme, but I would like to know if there is a possibility for any type of service bays/modules, namely those found on the ATV/Orion/CSTS and other spacecraft SMs that have a smaller bottom diameter. a part like this would give spacecraft an all-in-one part that provides a small engine with methalox, RCS with monopropellant, and a small battery with solar panels and a deployable antenna. of course, it would be heavy to compensate for the added features and the antenna would have a short range. a Dragon-style capsule with built-in retrorocket/launch escape thrusters, heat shield, parachute system and shielded docking port may also be interesting, though again, heavy. another compensating factor could be lack of RCS in place of thrusters and no top node in place of the shielded docking port, as well as a tiny battery. what other limitations could such parts have?

not quite as extreme, but could Vostok/Voskhod/Soyuz-style first/second stage boosters be added? just some idea I had to have some type of methalox launcher/sustainer engines with their own fuel, and a launcher engine to have built-in sepratrons and a sustainer engine to have built-in decouplers

Same, I would let that to the mods.

that makes a lot more sense. just saw a 3.75m command pod model for an outdated mod for KSP1 that had four seats, built-in RCS, LES/landing rockets, shielded docking port, parachute, and a heat shield. looked like a crew dragon pod, minus landing legs, and I really wanted that sort of thing to come to KSP2. I don't know where I thought of the service module, though.

It kinda kills the creativity and problem solving aspects of building a rocket, doesn't it? May as well just download a craft from KerbalX or wherever these things are being uploaded these days, and never visit the VAB, if everything you need is served in one package.
