Suggestion: Ability to save current vessel at flight into VAB

This could be useful when you have space station or base which you didn't earlier save as indepented workshop and you want make addons for it.

Furthermore (little more complicated) if there was ability to render part of surrounding surface at vab so you can plan your addons for that vessel base would work with terrain around, this would add better cabablity of planning things around certain curvatures and shapes of surface.

I'd love it just so when I realize my staging is wrong on the launch pad, I wouldn't have to revert to fix it "for real"

Definitely! Had to revert or load saved game so many times because of it.
Alternatively designs could be automatically saved not every few minutes (or whatever the schedule is) but on 'launch' - say, reserve 3 rolling save files especially for that (and give them a clear title).
