For Science Mission: Lens Test Failure

After you visit the monument on Duna, one of the secondary missions that appears is "Lens Test". The success condition is: "Transmit or return an atmospheric survey from Jool." It's worth 3000 science points, so quite worthwhile, especially since you should be able to combine it with the primary mission of orbiting Jool with a probe and 86Gm antenna. 

I set my probe to dip into the atmosphere to 172km. Science Jr. Jr. says I'm in Jool, Atmosphere, Equator. Conduct survey. Transmit. Escape. I got 900 science from the report! Woot! But the mission is still unsatisfied? Boo!

Any idea what I missed?

The contract wants an Atmospheric Survey. The Science Jr (and Jr Jr) do a... Environmental Survey? I don't recall.

The Atmospheric survey is from another part a bit further down the tech tree.

Ah. That's disappointing (in that I can't try again with the same probe) but helpful. Thanks!
