Modding in steamdeck

Hi all.

I want to play KSP with mods, both on my desktop computer and in my steamdeck.

Is it possible to install mods on steamdeck? It seem to use CKAN is no longer possible.

Is there any alternative way?

Yes mods can be installed manually in desktop mode. Same as on a regular computer.

That said, it would be much easier to use CKAN. I will try the above method myself asap.

After making significant changes to the default control scheme I’m very happy playing KSP on Deck. I’ve been thinking of starting a thread for steam deck players, I wonder how many of us there are.

Cool! If it works, would you mind updating the CKAN wiki with your findings? The CKAN team doesn't own that hardware, so the contribution and maintenance of those instructions depends on the kindness of passing strangers.

Easiest method - use CKAN on PC and copy GameData folder over to steam deck:

Prerequisites: 

- Have KSP and CKAN installed on a PC 

- any Micro SD card (format the card to exFAT)

Step 1: install and apply all mods you want on CKAN and run KSP on PC

Step 2: plug in micro SD and copy the GameData folder from the PC installed KSP 

Step 3: move the micro SD to the SteamDeck and open desktop mode

Step 4: copy and replace all contents of GameData folder to the steam deck ksp GameData. This is found in the Home directory under (“.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Kerbal Space Program”.) 

you need to show hidden files by left clicking the finder window then “show hidden files”.
