Total Mass

The total mass of this cannon is 18.51 tons.

Description

This cannon is able to launch kerbals incredibly high up in the air it is compact easy to land.

It uses up the first two action groups action group 1 is to toggle tha cannon action group 2 is to toggle all the ladders on the cannon.

The cannon also has docking ports to refuel the cannon if needed.

How to use

Throttle up to maximum power then activate the cannon and after 1 second deactivate it this way you will conserve fuel and launch the desired kerbal high up in the air.

Name: Schnick

Schnick Incorporated has developed a Space Cannon the Sagittarius Series Cannon should serve you well.

What I need to know: To use this cannon first be on Mun. This cannon will be hard to operate while in Kerbin 's strong gravitational pull.

The design for the cannon allows it to be landed without the landing gears to be down. Notice: There is no ladder to lead up to the cannon, this is because the way this cannon was designed it doesn't allow ladder to let the Kerbals to step up on the platform. Luckily the cannon was designed for Mun so a jet pack should be enough to get up to the platform. It also comes with a docking port for refueling the cannon. The cannon should be able to be used many many times before refueling but after about 100 uses it may have to be refueled. Schnick Inc. will design its own refueling rover/vehicle if necessary.

Use: Start by placing a Kerbal in the barrel . Then make sure the throttle is at 100%. Then activate the landing struts and that will aim the cannon into the air. Then start up the thruster and watch the kerbal fly.

Weight:35 mass units

this is my cannon

it is 16.5 tons

it can launch a kerbal extremely high.

action group 1 toggles ladder

action group 2 turns off the lander engines

action group 3 starts the cannon(don't start the engine until u have it throttled up)

her are some pics but the legs are moved up a tiny bit for better stability

http://mattjax12.imgur.com/all/

the gimbal on the engine can change the angle a little.

there are also 4 docking ports for refueling

it is very easy to move around on the mun

I just starting watching this series, and really like it. I was surprised to see the lapse (18 Apr to 1 May, as of this post). What is the submission deadline for the canon? It might be a good idea to include a deadline for submissions, such that folks new to the thread might know where they stand. As it is, with the over 2 week delay, I'm not sure if you have already selected a canon or not. Any who, subbed and liked; I love the community involvement, and congrats to DRAkTEC on two accepted designs!!

You're welcome. He updates the header on page 1 when he selects a design, just read through that to see what's been chosen and what's up for grabs.

Quick facts at a glance:

  • Total mass: 12.17 metric tons
  • Part count:47
  • 2 standard docking ports
  • 2 seat capsule included
  • Mobile
  • Efficient and powerful cannon

The Legoman Industries (LMI) kerbal cannon V3 is an advanced, well-tested system for delivering kerbals to low munar orbit from the surface. It has a lightweight constuction, simple design, and low part count. It features an integrated, easy-to use landing system, and a powerful cannon system composed of an areospike engine with a high isp for low fuel consumption.

MPjdjDm.png

Overview

There are 4 action groups included to make operation simple and easy:

  • Action group 1: Toggles the 4 radial landing engines.
  • Action group 2: Toggles the two ladders used to acces both the command pod and the cannon.
  • Action group 3: Toggles the front landing legs to change the cannon angle slightly.
  • Action group 4: Toggles the upper areospike acting as a cannon. Two quick presses at full power is enough to send a kerbal flying.

The included landing engines provide plenty of power for a safe landing, while keeping center of mass and thrust perfectly in line. Toggle the landing engines on with the first action group. A controlled and safe landing can be done using instruments only whilst descending at a modest speed, then executing a quick throttle up just before touchdown to soften the landing, then cutting power on touchdown. If a tire pops, have no fear! A kerbal can easily repair any of the four tires on EVA without having to leave the ladder on the command pod door. The two landing legs should be kept in the stowed position for landing.

Descent

Safe landing

After the landing engines have been deactivated using the first action group and the control mode is switched to linear docking, the LMI kerbal cannon V3 can be driven as a rover to a suitable launching spot. Once a spot is found, orient the rover so it faces the direction opposite of the desired orbit. Click on the parking brake, then activate the second action group to extend the ladders, and engage the third action group to engage the landing legs.

Deployed configuration

To launch a kerbal, you can either bring a kerbal over from another craft (without EVA fuel to maximize fuel usable in orbit), or set one of the onboard kerbals to EVA (you can use the included command pod to refuel jetpacks if a seat is available). Proceed to climb the Telus-LV Bay Mobility Enhancer until directly over the areospike engine. Switch back to controlling the cannon, and verify all engines are off (use action groups 1 and 4 to shut off the landing and launch engines respectively). Throttle up to full power. When the launch window opens, activate the fourth action group twice in rapid succession to launch (less time spent firing means less fuel used). The kerbal can use their EVA pack to stabilize themselves and enter a modest orbit (>20km high), with some fuel to spare for boarding a spacecraft.

A kerbal loaded into firing position

LMI has tested all aspects of the rover's performance on the mun. It can successfully land from several hundred meters altitude, drive continuously in day, drive for short stretches at night (and recharge quickly), and fire kerbals into orbit reliably and with minimal risk of damage to the cannon or nearby construction (assuming the launch engine is clear). A low center of mass and wide wheelbase means it is not inclined to tip over. It has enough fuel to launch many times. Additionally, it has been verified to reliably dock with the DRAkTEC MunTraktor in both kerbin and munar gravity, without RCS, allowing for refueling from currently deployed systems.

Photo of docking

Please note the production model has had the landing legs lowered to improve their ability to tilt the craft.

LMI accepts no liability for landing on top of things, kerbals unable to reach orbit due to their natural inablity to keep things pointed in one direction, and problems from activating engines in an erroneous sequence.

The user accepts costs of transport to the mun.

Thank you for consideration and happy launching!

Not bad, I really like the styling and the genius use of an aerospike. Only tip I can offer is maybe to use the heavy lander legs instead of the light ones, to make it pitch further for launches. Remember that once it's fired a kerbal, it's all up to EVA packs to finish the trip, so the closer you can get them to an orbital trajectory the better. I personally shoot for 30 degrees, since that might as well be 45 once you account for planet curvature.

(Not serious BTW)

Okay, the Kerbal Cannon Project is going too far! We put these poor souls through torture enough as it is! We crash them, mash them and strand them in space for years or simply for eternity! Firing them out of cannon is the last straw! I say we start a Society for Prevention Of Cruelty to Kerbals, or S.P.O.C.K.! Won't someone think of the poor Kerbals?

Thanks! Ive lately begun to think of it as being like a turtle.

I was a bit disappointed with how far they tilted the vehicle, so I moved them down to boost that a little in the actual download, but havent had a chance to run more tests. The heavy lander legs would be a big improvement too.

Orbital Kerbal Launch device, codename "ladder gun"

Quick step by step :

1 - Bind Action groups

2 - Get to Mun

3 - Get kerbal on TOP of the upper module, there will be a ladder

4 - Activate the Made-Out-Of-Landing-Gear Safety shield.

5 - Activate thrusters and decouple

I hope it works.

I hope you like it.

I hope you use it.

I hope you don't mind it hasn't been tested on the Mun, witch is the recommended body to be launched from.
