Post your Rover MEGATHREAD

This thread gave me the gift of inspiration!

I present the Avalanche rover, with the capacity to carry two Kerbals, ample RTGs and solar panels to power it forever, a wide, low body to prevent it from flipping, and four landing legs only there to "make it look cooler".

You just gave me an idea... I'll post it later if I can manage to get it to work.:D

EDIT: So much for that idea. Was going to make a rover that could drive even if it flipped upside down, but it seems as though wheels in KSP only function if the 'bottom' of the wheel is in contact with the ground.

I'm quite impressed with the braking power and traction of this thing on the Mun.

I turned off the front motors, so they don't contribute to slowing down, there by adding more stability to the front end by not allowing the back end to topple over itself. The other three pair are doing all the work.

The roving beacon machine's primary goal is to locate and mark kethane fields, but can be used to mark locations of anomalies, places of interest, etc. Each beacon is solar powered and can remain active almost indefinitely. The rover itself is quite stable but could use a bit more in the speed department. On Kerbin it can keep going with just 3 of the inner 4 wheels intact. It has many spare solar panels in case Jeb gets his hands on the controls.

My Mun Buggy, I named it the Flea :) It has surprisingly good handling, can go 9.5 m/s on only its engine power, not including downward slopes increasing your speed, and its entirely electric, relying on some solar panels and nuclear generators when it turns night :) It also has an esthetic rollcage, which doubles as a support beam for when you flip. You just open the roll cage and it flips you back up :) It's got 2 lights, and is EXTREMELY light! I mean this thing is ridiculously light.

This is also only my second rover, so I'm extremely pleased with the way it turned out, a nice mix of looks and functionality :) So without further adieu, the pictures of The Flea!

Here The Flea is, just off the landing craft which can be seen in the background. Macemome Kerman has stepped up to be our brave driver for today :)

Here Macemome is, pulling away from the lander! Let's get rollin!

Here we are reaching the before mentioned max speed of 9.5 m/s (20 mph) and it looks like we are about to hit a bump!

Noooooo! Macemome! The Flea flipped over mid air, and he went soaring through the windshield! Right as he was trying to get back up The Flea ran him over! ;.;

Whatever! This thing has got an unmanned pod in it :D To Infinity and beyoooond!

How do you guys go about assembling your rovers? Even when I have an idea for a rover I can never convince the assembly environment to play ball.

Where are you building, VAB or SPH? Building a rover in the SPH is very easy compared to the VAB as the latter lacks mirror symmetry.

I've been doing it in VAB so I can attach it to my lifters. The mirror symmetry is one issue, but more than that I'm just frustrated at trying to connect various girders and structural panels together and having them either refuse to attach, or insist on attaching in some peculiar way, such as through the centre of girders.

"Dropperbot" rover, fully automated but accommodates two drivers.

I successfully tested the Mosquito delivery system as well (parked just ahead of the rover), and then realized I didn't have any way for the driver(s) to board in standard gravity! (Nor can the Mosquito pilot get back in his ship if he leaves). :mad:

Kerbal Industries LLC presents it's smallest rover ever - just 3 parts! Run by the new Perpetual Angular Motion Drive! (and 2 batteries)

Shown here wheeling around on Duna at a speedy 2 m/s

Edit: OK why won't my imagur photo show up ?? ;.;

Here's the URL - but why no photo in the tags ?

Hey guys kinda new to the whole Forum setup but I came up with this idea for a dune buggy style rover while playing Forza the other day :sticktongue:

The Link for the whole album is Below

I may think about trying maybe to start a thread in the spacecraft exchange, not quite sure yet.

There's an extra opening bracket at the end of the link. May I assist?:

Interesting idea!

Also, I noticed the little "?" in the top left of your interface. Do you have the Crew Manifest mod installed?

Yes I do have Crew Manifest - I was making a huge spacecraft and didn't want to have to climb 14 kerbals up the launch tower :) Oh and Thanks !! for the info as to why my pic was not posting - serves me right for being up so late at night.

That silly little probe-wheel actually works and you can even turn it though it is a pain to manage. Kind of cool if you wanted to wide scale explore a small area . You could drop down a dozen or more of those thing and just go wild. Lightweight cheap and disposable. Maybe I'll try one with a couple of RTMs as Spartwo below suggests but with a couple of batts the thing will run for a couple of kms and yu don't really want to drive that slow thing much slower than that.

I actually have a lot better in the way of rovers which I'll post later but it was late at night and I thought the idea was kind of silly-great,

It's definitely an example of how the wonky KSP physics make for some hilarious moments!

Regarding your Crew Manifest "?" thing, if you're using the latest updated version you should have a path that looks like this:

lYF8eyj.png

Crew Manifest can't find the images for the button where it thinks they should be, which is why you're left with that question mark instead.
