Decoupler/Separator stage problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I working on at cool Escape pob system for my station, but I have some trouble getting my staging to separate correctly.

What happens is then I hit space only the parachutes(all of them) and the decouplers closest to the middel separate but not the separators between the pods.

I have tried all possible combinations of decouplers and separators and the same thing always happen.

I have tried putting a Kerbal in a pod, decouple the control unit and then stage, but same thing.

I sure(almost) that the separators between the pods doesn't fire because after I have press spacebar can right click on the separator and click decouple, assuming there is a kerbal in one of the pods.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT: I'm trying to make everything activate at the same time. Action groups doesn't either.

You need to adjust your staging, if you want each parachute and pod to separated separately, you need to set it up staging wise, to select a single part in a cluster, click the "stack" until it expands, then the one your setting up. and drag it to a new stage

Oh.. I forgot to mention that. I don't want each parachute, decoupler and separator to separate separately. Want I'm trying to do make it so everything activates at the same time.

I also forgot to mention I have tried using action groups. Same thing

KSP doesn't seem to like activating separators that are getting separated (I know that's worded odd, but it's what you have going on). I also suspect (but I'm not sure) that KSP doesn't activate all parts instantaneously, it activates parts in the order they were added. That would mean the smaller decouplers are firing first (because that part was added first), and the separators are now not part of the ship (and therefore can't be activated). I'd try doing it in two stages, eject the outer ring then the inner ring. If you're going for what I think you are, that would probably work better anyway. You'll have fewer pods trying to collide with each other.

Parts fire one by one and parts on debris don't fire if disconnected, so your inner ring is firing first and your outer ring isn't firing when it's turn comes around because it's no longer connected to the vessel.

You can't add the outer ring first but you can try and change the behaviour, try adding ActivatesEvenIfDisconnected = true to the config file for the seperators (outside the module definitions).
