The New Bobcat Colonization Challenge

Recommended Posts

Due to unfortunate recent events, I lost the save file that I did all the stuff that I did in. What would you recommend for me to do?

Oh, and by the way, [/self promotion start] I recently made a similar challenge. [/end self promotion]

Any colony you already made is still gonna count in this challenge. You can start over if you want, but if you decide you'd rather not, you can also just pick up where you left off. The evidence of your accomplishments lives on, after all.

are we allowed to modify the HOME parts? my deli/shoestore is modified so it has a bit of fuel in it. is that okay?

also, I have an idea: if you are using the extraplanetary launchpad mod (I am) a working launchpad should be worth some points.

(p.s. sorry for all the questions, just trying to get it right)

I'd prefer if you not mod HOME parts unless it's absolutely necessary (ie. they won't work in the current version otherwise).

When I made this challenge originally, Exoplanetary Launchpads didn't exist. But you could use one to ensure you have the Opt Out Clause bonus, since it would effectively let you get your Kerbals back to Kerbin from anywhere.

After some tweaks to the config files, I got the DEMV rovers working in 0.21! :)

Nice group shot of them with a kerbal for reference.

Does anyone know if the scaling looks right? I had to rescale the Mk2 chassis part to get it to fit correctly with its other components, but I'm not sure if the others are scaled correctly.

another question - the HOME2 hub habitats count as habitat modules, right?

I've never even heard of that part before! A link to the appropriate thread would be much appreciated.

The scale seems to be about right, yeah. It's a pity they're not being updated officially any longer.

I've created a folder with all the config files here. Hopefully that will avoid potential copyright issues.

NOTE: the models, textures and plugins required are NOT included, only the reconfigured config files. You will need to download the main assets separately and replace the config files.

Prepare to never feel the same again about the existing HOME stuff. Sadly, HOME2 wasn't fully functional last time I looked at it, but imagine having a center hub that instead of having three expandable parts depending on which module you used, has 4 slots for what you want to put there. He's got a work area, green house, airlock, and fuel storage so far. Let me see...

Figures the Youtube

would be easier to find.

OK, looks like the parts for HOME2 are included in the 0.21.1 version of HOME 1.0.5, which came out a little under 2 months ago, which explains why I couldn't find a HOME 2.X download anywhere.

It looks pretty cool! Sure, I'll accept HOME2 parts as well as HOME parts. They seem to be roughly equivalent in a lot of ways, so we'll keep the point values the same as their original-version counterparts... for now. I'll have to do some more in-depth research on them to see what all has changed, but for now I'll recognize HOME2 parts as the same thing as the original HOME parts.

I've got a fairly sharp eye for that sort of thing, actually. It doesn't help that there is generally a "best way" to design HOME habitats which naturally leads to similar-looking designs, though.

There are a few differences, like how some people put the parachutes on them as a sort of beauty ring even on vacuum worlds, and some people like to use the stock cockpit instead of the HOME one. Me, I'm thinking about making at least one base with a HOME habitat controlled from a Firespitter bomber cockpit. :sticktongue:

Is the ANT compatible with 0.21.1 ???

Yes, but you have to replace the .cfg file that it comes with with the one I put in the download. It works, but needed the .cfg updated to the new system. Also make sure that you have the CleverBobCat.dll installed. This is because it uses the really old cart logic from .18, when wheeled vehicles required a plugin to function.
