I can't seem to make a plane!

This is not a space plane, it is meant to stay in the atmosphere. Though I can't seem to get a good design! The problem is that when I try to turn my plane dives into the ground causing my kerbals to die . Could someone tell me what to do so I can get an idea of what is a good plane?
