Setting specific coordinates as target

Recommended Posts

I was wondering is there was any mod or stock function which would allow you to set a target on the planet you are orbiting at specific coordinates. Lets say you want to set a marker at the north pole, or near an anomaly mapsat found to get you to the location without having to many corrections.

I know kerbal engineer gives you your current latitude and longitude, and mechjeb landing function can tell you how far you are from the point, but nothing gives you a visual reticle

Got it. I stationed a probe near the KSC runway to assist my SSTO landing approaches which proves a big help! I'll give mechjeb 2 a try to make some probes to navigate to the sites and act as permanent markers.

Yeah, I did the rover-probe thing for runway markers, too. I've got one 100m off each end of the runway, and another 5km west of the runway, forming a line. This makes it really easy to get a returning spaceplane lined up to land from a long way out.

I tested MJ2's landing autopilot three times on Kerbin from 100km+ orbits and got one right on target and two that were hundreds of km off. The guidance indications are correct, if you do the maneuvers manually, but MJ2 seems to ignore them sometimes and just do whatever it wants.
