A Mars return involves a Mars launch, plus lots of fuel taken there specifically for the launch, plus launching installations. Plus, if the objective is having a Mars colony, why bother?

Mars one is a big scam. I highly doubt that M1 is capable of acquiring the funding needed for the mission.

I don't know, I reckon it's a reasonable idea. We know more than the average guy how much more complex return missions can be.

The sad part is that nasa had a NERVA drop in for the Saturn V 3rd stage that would be larger though lighter allowing for enough delta V for mars missions to begin in the late 60's. Then the budget got slashed.
