Hey all;

Long time gamer and software developer, and KSP has been by far, the most engaging game I've picked up in a long time. For 4 years, I was fixed on EVE, then on STO for about half a year, then both fell to the way side. For a little while I was into SC2013, but that lasted about 2 weeks. When EA put out the call that we get a free game, I played ME3 for about 2 weeks and beat it. Half way through a second run for things I've missed. After that, decided to load up Spore and set a goal at beating all of the Grox, with cheats. Have a small dent.

With EVE, you either harass other players, or, you avoid other harassing players. For STO, you get something like 60 unique missions between two races, and then grind anything else. KSP is truly a replacement for SimCity 2013. No grinding. The $30 or so I paid... Yeah... Extremely worth it. I downloaded the free version, installed, but didn't get a chance to play. Started watching Youtube, heard the comments about the video lag, but knew about the stage of the software, so, I'm cool with that.

I know this is really REALLY pre-pre-pre alpha to the alpha, and there are a LOT of optimizations that have to come out before a true Alpha is sent out. My major beef IS with the lack of optimizations for video, the lack of support for multi-core. Hitting up GPUs for Physics would be great, however, that is extra dev time. I need to load up my GPU monitors to see what kind of hurt they take on when playing KSP, but I hear the fans spin up on my twin GTX570 cards. Wonder if I SLI them if that'd help? hmmm....

Anyways, here's to a long and successful endeavor with this program. I'm for one hooked.

Welcome to the community Pontiac :)

If you look here and here you'll see that performance improvements are coming :D

Also, stuff like Gpu physics, 64bit executables and threads across multiple cores are dependent on Unity3D adding such features (or stabilising the features they have started to add) to their game engine, as KSP is made in Unity.

These things are coming, and Squad want to include them in KSP, they just take time :)

'Lo gents;

I did a bit more research into this, and did find the same thing that Unity is single threaded, etc. Also read up that nVidia owns the rights to PhysX, and unlikely to share them with AMD and Intel (From my understanding anways) so it'd be back to CPU grinding for those two, or, they come up with their own implementation.

Either way, got 0.20 installed and running and LOVING the optimizations and new rover wheels. Personally, I would have dealt without the optimizations and kept the wheels......

Welcome to the forums! :)

Unfortunately, I'm not really up on the technical side of things myself, so I can't really address those concerns. However, should you need any help with reaching a particular goal in the game, or even if you just want to do things better than you're doing them now, I'd highly recommend taking a gander at the Drawing Board (link in my sig), which contains a steadily-growing number of tutorials and other reference materials to assist players of all skill levels. The people on the How To forums will also be more than happy to render any assistance should you find yourself in a particularly sticky situation.

Happy landings!

I've been playing for a few months. I've cheated my way to victory to see what I'm up against, found out whats needed, now have the cheats off and building the infrastructure I need. My goal right now is to build a "gas station" with 6 large orange tanks, and 12 large RCS tanks. I've created a tug for emergency purposes, and I've also created a rescue boat that can go up, attach to the station, and return safely. I had my first 100% successful EVA moving 5 kerbals from other parts of the station to the rescue boat, and successfully land.

My first goal is to get the ISA MapSat around Moho. I've done Kerbin, done Mun and the other moon around Kerbin that I've forgotten the name of, and the 2nd planet from the sun, which also escapes me. (I'm worse than awful with names). So Moho is my primary target, which lead me to this massive undertaking. ;)
