mission to gilly

Cool, well done. I have only ever been there once and I managed to break my engines off stranding my crew

I'm sorry, but how in the hell did you manage to break off your engines landing on Gilly of all places? What, are they made out of eggshells? It's gravity is so low you can often land on RCS attitude control alone.

Not bad, for a first try.

My first try was testing an ion engine for landing without ASAS. And it swerved like crazy. Edan was stranded, but I sent rescue mission, (first ever) and suceeded! Since then, I have landed a probe, and a base consisting of (this was back in 0.17, when I was testing Bobcat MK5 "Ant") 4 Ants, one main lander, 1 DEMV MK2 (yes, it is possible to land it without a skycrane), then I left it there.

Plenty of smiling kerbals. Well, they didn't smile as much back then :P{

true, I like this picture of landing an base on Gilly,

the base was landed with no problem, note this was not the landing, but an movement to an flatter location. rcs movement did not work as all the rcs is at the skycrane at the top.

Only real danger is to high horizontal movement, probably combined with landing in uneven terrain, most of Gilly is very hilly and its often hard to spot this from above. I used an small agile lander to find location for the base.

Gilly can be done with Ion power only. I believe it is the only body capable of this.

Minmus can be landed on with ion engines, too, and probably Pol and maybe Bop, too.
