[It's finally here!] Apollo Replica "MUNBUG XII" Saturn V, CSM, Lander, Buggy

Recommended Posts

Woot! As of today there have been 2000 downloads from the Munbug series! 300 of those are Munbug VI

I thought I had pretty much got this craft completed... I was wrong! Munbug VII will be out soon with a much more Apollo like CSM.

You weren't kidding about the landing envelope for the LM. 24.8km orbit requires almost a full burn until touchdown. Managed to get a rendezvous with the assistance of micropropellant during the ascent as well.

Here is an album of part of the mission:

Thanks again for sharing these great crafts! Using the Munbug was the most fun I've had playing this game so far.

Yep, it is a challenge to land, you pretty much have to burn all the way down gradually turning to face retrograde all the way. I find getting the number on your speed and altitude to roughly match all the way down is a good way to judge it.

i have a question on the service module, why not clip the engine a bit into it ? appolo's services modules just show the bell nozzle at the end of the service module :)

Here we go.... Munbug VII CSM. Will release the whole craft soon. As usual I should add that I do not use the clipping cheat! everything is done by using clever tricks in the editor.

Ignore the various gadgets on the nose... I've been trying out Ampyear, protractor and Chatterer

looks almost like the real thing with this skipper clipped into the service module :)

i've been trying to make an escape tower which looks more like apollo's one :) (even if the I-beams looks a bit short compared to the real one srb's solid fuel tank :P)

c0v6B69l.jpg

basically, there's 12 separatrons at the base of this one, clipped (without the debug menu) to look like there's only 4 exhausts. for the two separatrons at the top, they have a slightly different angle from each side, so the one which is near the small nosecone's black paint offer slightly more lateral thrust, giving the abort system a nice arc like escape path which goes in the direction opposite to the black paint, to help it veer off course from the rocket.

there is a cubic strut and a TR-2V decoupler hidden inside the clamp-o-tron (the cubic strut is radially attached to the 3 man capsule) the aerodynamic nose cone being the first part of the launch tower attached to this decoupler. - for standard 'inflight' jetissoning of the launch tower, i simply activate the 2 topmost separatrons, and 4 separatrons at the base, from the 12, and decouple the TR-2V.

Yes... I should really look at my escape tower. It's the only part of the old Munbug left! (Munbug 2-5)

Update on progress for next update (in progress)...

Having some teething trouble with Munbug VII as it seems to have got harder to squeeze DV out of rockets since 0.20.2 Although the patch notes don't mention it I think something may have been nerfed... either power to weight ratios or possible increased drag.

Would be interested to hear if anyone else is having trouble completing lunar orbit insertion with the third stage on Munbug VI... it was fine on 0.20.1

Long time listener, first time caller:

Since flying your Dunebug II on a rescue for poor Jeb whom I left stranded in a command pod on Duna I have been very interested in your crafts. I want to say thank you.

To answer your question:

I just attempted to fly Munbug VI for the first time. I'm running 0.20.2 and having a heck of a time reaching a stable Kerbin orbit even at 75k. In fact, after struggling to reach orbit I don't seem to have enough Delta-V in the third stage to reach the Mun. I'm not a great pilot, but I feel like I am adequate enough to at least make it to orbit. I can't offer any more information than that I'm afraid. On a side note (and I'm not sure if it's related or not), The structural panel fairings do not seem to want to jettison very nicely. Having not tried Munbug VI on earlier builds, I have no previous experiences with the action of the fairings to say if this is my screw up or something that changed with 0.20.2.

Thanks that's useful.... I might install 20.1 tomorrow and compare. Either way I'll be working on Munbug VII until it flies under 20.2! I know about the panels, will be fixed for VII as well as a few other issues. The new CSM is actually heavier than munbug VI was so is proving very challenging to build (without adding boosters and ruining the look!).. adding this apparent nerfing of the physics really doesn't help!

i had no problems with munbug V can't get VI into orbit though but i figured it was the lag messin me up lot more parts in VI then V (not a complaint however :) my computer sucks lol ) just retried the orbit one of my main problems is that there is a line of fuel tanks on the last stage that that doesn't drain and pulls the rocket towards 270 right off the weight imbalance pulls southerly later in the launch as i can't see the tanks buried underneath can't tell what is happining there the pull south could just be from y attempts to keep it straight up.

For all the nuffers like me and for me, how does one find the craft file and copy and paste into the VAB folder. i don't know what that iLividSetup thingy is? Thanks Mulbin and sorry for being stupid.

I really want to have a play with Munbug! Soooooo coooool!

Ahhh... more useful information! Munbug VI was working fine for me from the original copy in my VAB... however the one I can't get into orbit I have downloaded from my link... perhaps a fuel line is broken somewhere! I'll investigate.... need to get to the bottom of this, I know it should work as I've completed two Mun missions with it before!!

... I don't know what ilividsetup is either.... never heard of it. you should click my download link and get taken straight to a Mediafire Download link for the craft file.

I've got the day off tomorrow, so looking forward to having a play.

Stupid here again. all I get when i click on the download button is "Munbug Vl-2.craft.txt" and another casino site window opens?

oh I am on mac does this matter?

Edit, don't worry m8. I'm just gona stick to the Spaceport mediafire just seems real dodgy. I'm a bit scared of what I've downloaded now.

Mediafire is a mainstream, trusted hosting site so that's not the problem. It sounds to me like you have a trojan / malware on your computer which is re-directing you... nothing to do with mediafire or my file. I strongly recommend you perform a full scan if you are getting these random pop-ups and redirects as something nasty is lurking in your computer (yes macs do get trojans... usually this happens when you open a dodgy file/program - hacked game etc).

For reference when you click my link you should see this screen (and only this screen)

one_zpsa7e856ef.jpg

Then when you click download you will get this popup

two_zpsff3979bc.jpg

If anything else happens I'm afraid the problem is at your end :(

Hope this helps...

ps. craft files ARE text files. If it is appearing as .txt you need to rename it as .craft without the .txt

Mulbin, do you have Adblock? I get a lot of ads when I go to the site, including fake download buttons, so that might be what other people are encountering.

Hmmm. maybe my antivirus is just better! I never get any popups or ads from mediafire

I dragged the file into my ship folder, but it doesnt work :( is it because I'm on a mac? And if so anyone know how to convert it?

If it isn't working it is probably to do with the file extension (.craft / .txt)

For the file to work it needs to be called "munbug VI.craft" not "munbug VI.craft.txt" If it only says .craft but still isn't working then your settings may be hiding the extension (so basically it is still called munbug VI.craft.txt - but it's hiding the .txt part from you). You should have an option in OS X somewhere to display file extensions so you can delete the .txt bit.

Another way is to make a copy of one of your working .craft files, open it and delete all the text inside and copy the text from the munbug file into it - then rename the file to munbug...

Here's some info for the mac
