A friendly reminder to future Mun tourists.

Oh I really like that one, I do!

Got to have more of those around the Kerbal system such as a flag planted next to the launch pad with the instructions ' DO NOT TOUCH THE RED BUTTON'

And perhaps a one next to the Eve lakes saying 'DO NOT DRINK'.

Or what about one next to the Mun base saying 'PLEASE DO NOT SLAM THE DOOR'.

Or what about one saying 'YOU ARE HERE' with a big arrow on it pointing down!

Or maybe one with a chart of the solar system and 'YOU ARE HERE' on it with a big red arrow pointing to the relative planet!

Got to love them Kerbals.

Such as shame these flags dont allow you to do text very well because one side is reversed. I know, I know, - its realistic as far as flags go. But since when does a computer game have to be completely realistic?

Hey, folks.

Thought I'd put this out there for people to use. (It's an SVG file for inkscape that I made on a whim, that lets you create basic flags.)

It's not very far along yet (it currently lacks foreground devices for example), but it can serve as a starting point for folks, as it has a more varied selection of field divisions and patterns than (say) the flag generator up thread, and you can customize the colors and such arbitrarily.

There's a readme file with tips and other info -- even a (very basic) tutorial. Note that I'm not being judgemental with my "tips on good flags". If you want to break those rules, feel free. I do it myself. But it's best to break rules as a informed choice, not an accident. The tips are fairly obvious, and just there to let people know some of the reasons (real) flags look the way they do, and thus help them make flags that look like such, if that's what they want.

I haven't even installed 0.20 yet (still a few missions to finish in 0.19.1) but I've created a few flags.

The base is a 2 strips background to represent Kerbin/kerbalkind (green) and space (black).

This will be my KSC main flag.

I plan on using this one for my Mun and Minmus landers, changing the circle color accordingly.

LanderflagMun2.jpg

Those are based on the design of my current long range ships, capable of landing on low gravity moons such as Gilly, Ike, Bop and Pol.

Those last 2 are for my Kerbonauts Corp.

KerbonautCorp.jpg I might change the logo inside the helmet depending on the mission.

Well, I've been trying my hand at this for a bit, but found out only too late that the flag I created doesn't scale well to 256x160. Here's the flag I was working from:

NewImperium.jpg

Looks nice, but I'm probably going to need to rework it or do something a little different. I also found out that if you simply scale the image properly, it goes down to 256x128; adding in transparent pixels - my first thought, didn't play well as the game adds black bars wherever the image lacks data. Well, at least I'm making progress, and the flag I created did load in-game so there's that too. Perhaps I'll try a simpler design next time.

I have had this happen before as well, it's best to create the image at the size it will be used at.

With a small image like 256x160 you can always design it at 300 dpi without causing too much issues with lag.

You will get much less pixelation with 300 dpi, you might even get away with 600 dpi.

Not a bad suggestion there. I suppose the only issue I'd have with trying to work in such a small area relates mainly to my flag designs, which are constructed from various pieces taken from other images (public domain/free to use stuff). It might be worth working with a larger canvas that is the same ratio of 256x160, so it will scale at the right rate when the time comes. I hadn't thought about the dpi concern - usually because such things are not all that relevant in my case. I'll take that into consideration in the future however.
