Apollo Mission Pack Development (Beta version released!)

Recommended Posts

I have had a good test of this I get to the point of the return and the LEM 2nd stage is pretty much uncontrollable even with caps lock on.

Apart from that a really cool mod.

Yes, the pod torque that we had on the LM pod was way too high. All the pod SAS and torque values are going to get reworked on the next release because they will use the new system introduced in 0.21.

Are you planning to include the separator engines on the SI/II adapter and on the 3rd stage sometime if you modify the parts?

You mean the retro rockets? Yea I'd definitely like to include those. I thought about making them separate parts, but then I realized that there is no collision mesh on the interstage ring, so I don't know how I'm going to handle that.

If it would be easiest to leave the ullage motors as integrated parts, I would vote to go with that solution. Ullage motors are easy to forget (at least they are for me).

This is what I intend to do for them. I'll just build that function into the interstage parts. It will just mean that some of the staging is going to have to be done with action groups so that the two actions don't fire at once.

Another option would be to make attachment points for them, and then they could be separate parts.

While waiting for the release version of the AMP, why not play around with a kerbalized S-IB, S-IV, SM and SPS?

Hey that looks awesome! Glad to see you had some fun with that. I see you set up the resources to use real-world components. I have been pondering doing that for AMP.

I haven't had a chance to play with your parts yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Cheers!

:) Cool glad to hear it my Apollo mission is on hold until then.

Keep up the good work buddy.

Is the next version going to have upgraded internals too?

One more thing.

Have you considered creating the guidance and landing computers? That would be soooo cool.

I assembled the Saturn IB. It is really good and even the look of it is very nice but I think it has too much delta v. The 2nd stage tank had half of it's fuel after finalizing the orbit.

Nothing else is going to happen with the internals right away. Once both command pod models are set in stone, I'll redo the internals to match geometrically. At that point I'll add a few dials and switches, but other than that I'm not going to do much with them until the IVA system is completed (unless I find myself with a bunch of free time and nothing to do, but that's unlikely)

As far as the flight computers, there was a guy who was starting to write a plugin that created a sort of "assembly language" to be able to write programs that would control the craft. I'm not sure what ever happened with that project, but if it or something like it continues to develop with the game, it would be fun to try to implement the actual functions of the flight computers into a set of IVA switches and lights in the command pods. But that would be a far-down-the-road project if it ever happened

See my thread.

Do you really have to advertise your mod here?

Not trying to steal your show. But I figured that people who like a Sat V would also like a Sat IB.

Besides, both projects were made after differing principles. You're doing it realistically, I'm doing it simplified.

I've advertised the AMP in turn.

There's two programmable flight computer plugins out there at present, SimplySimon's ProgCom and zengei's Ketchup: DCPU-16. However, they are nothing like the computers on the Apollo spacecraft.

Now, if you wanted to be more correctly realistic, there is a simulator of the Apollo Guidance Computer (and LM Abort Guidance System); the software also has the nice function that you only need implement the interface in whatever you want, and then TCP/IP over to the actual simulated CPU(s). A "full" simulation of the Apollo spacecraft would have two AGC CPUs, one running the COLOSSUS CM program, the other running the LUMINARY LM program, and an AGS CPU running the LM abort software.

Or you could take the AGC and AGS simulator code and implement it directly as a plugin in KSP. But that would require more work.

What do you mean simplified? There's nothing simple about the Saturn 1B. Give yourself more credit.

Well, don't look at it too closely. There's lots of stuff that looks slightly different on the real thing (fuel tanks, engine bells, etc...). :D

Somebody updated a mod with the exact same Saturn V.

It seems to be gone now. I think the Saturn V launcher itself in this pack was taken from a very old version of the Saturn V. That doesn't really bother me though, because I'd like to replace it at some point.

Not like it's a big deal because this was the first addon which broke my game. And that Saturn didn't even lift.

Yeah, I've seen that mod. In fact, if you look in the comments section on the spaceport page for it, you can see my interaction with him, and see how much of a dick he was to me. Basically, he lifted the Saturn parts directly from a pack that I had released that was just an update of the original Saturn parts to work with 0.18. That was subsequently removed, and then he republished it using the original .dae models, but still trying to use the cfgs that I had written, which is why the textures didn't work and the engines didnt generate lift. The kid clearly doesn't know what he's doing, but seems to have someone working with him now to convert stuff in Unity. Since all the parts in his pack are lifted from other mods, I'm not too concerned about it. Ours is going to end up looking much better, and it will also, you know, actually work

(edit: Also, that "do you even lift, bro" image is hilarious!)
