I was driving my rover around, when it hit an invisible wall and popped a couple of tires. Then...this happened.

Why didn't you have the brake on to begin with? But yes, there are just spots of ground where mini-krakens live. I lost a rover on Vall because every time I loaded it with a quicksave, the right rear wheel would explode and send the rover tumbling. It does seem to be where one piece of terrain meets another.
