Mission idea think-tank

Hello I'm new to the general discussion board but this idea stuck me. Sometimes I find KSP dry, from working hours on end perfecting a vehicle. Now don't get me wrong this is a very fun part o KSP but for me sometimes I want a structured missions. So I came up with some examples of what I mean.

-

Have probe in LKO with solar panels

Send Kerbal to repar

Kerbal brakes panels

Send up new solar panels

-

Have normal probe

Send manned mission to probe

Eva next to the probe

Fly to station

Leave all but one Kerbal in orbit

Rerun to Kerban

-

Put WMD's in orbit

Have war

Release WMD

Profit

-

Just a little more structured than your average day. So I wanted to create a thread dedicated to helping the newer players and me stay a little more interested.

For something that actually happened to me:

Launch a massive interplanetary spaceship, have one of the fuel modules break while doing the transfer to the target planet, send a repair team with a replacement module to salvage the mission and replace the crew that have gone insane during their seven year orbit around the sun.

Replicate some of the highlights of earth space exploration?

Plant a flag on every solid celestial body? :)

I'm currently working on a form of "space tourism" with a regular return trip between Kerbin and.. Some far away destination.

for that I need:

2 space stations at each end

a dedicated SSTO lander/lifter on the far end, and a system (SSTO?) for flying kerbonauts up and back to the KSP at this end

A "bus" that shuttles back and forth between the 2 stations

Kethane mining to refuel everything.

I have been working on some rules (ala the tables from games like CAR WARS or AD&D) so that I have random missions to do. Things like the HEO orbit satellites used by the Russians because they are so far north that GEO sats can be problematic. GEO Sats and why, GPS sats, etc... Basically you roll dice against the tables to do the missions. Some things are launches, you might get a repair mission (go up and EVA to a satellite, I put a ladder section on them all for that very purpose), deorbit/decomission sats, etc....

Example: I have thrown up a GPS constellation. Launch angle heading of about 35 degree from the pad (so the inclination is semi-close to the real GPS sats) and an orbit of about 1585km so that it orbits the planet twice a day. I currently have 8 sats up.

Usually after a few "random" missions followups missions (and therefor "quests") show up anyway.

Like: "Rescue fallen over mun-lander crew" or "rescue the rescue mission" or "get to a satelite and extend the solar panels, because you forgot to do that and the batteries ran dry" or "get that satelite back to another ship because using Ion-Drives take to freaking long to burn do do any good".

Right now I am in the process to fuel up my deep space tanker to see if it will hold together during burn.

My Last Mission Log (I'm stupid sometimes i know...):

Planned:

1. Send Part 1 of Fuel Train (RCS Part with Cupola Module and Solar Panels and Docking Port on the back) into LKO

2. Send Part 2 of Fuel Train (Unmanned Probe on the Top, Docking Port on the back)

3. Dock them together (RCS Part makes rendez-vous, as it has a small fuel tank with an engine and a decoupler on the back).

4. Fly with it to the KOS-A and dock it with the Space Station

How it turned out:

1. Send Part 1 of Fuel Train (RCS Part with Cupola Module and Solar Panels and Docking Port on the back with Engine and small Fuel Tank (detachable)) into LKO

2. Accidentially decoupled the fuel tank with the engine

3. Send up another one and docked that to the RCS Part

4. Send Part 2 of Fuel Train (Unmanned Probe on the Top, Docking Port on the back)

5. Forget solar panels and run out of energy while waiting for rendez-vous burn

6. Send up an RCS Tank with solar panels and dock it to the Fuel Part

7. Dock both parts together (finally)

8. [still in Progress] Trying to dock a Train with 2 Big Rockomax Tanks + 10 Big RCS Tanks with a space station.
