Unwanted sepratron firing

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of escape pods on my space station, consisting of a command pod with parachutes and enough sepratrons around the edge to de-orbit the module with a crew of three. When I first took control of the station after the update, all of the sepratrons fired and put my station into a wild spin. Not to be deterred, I flew up a new pair of escape modules to replace them. I flew my tug over to the delivery rocket and docked with the stack. When I undocked from the delivery rocket, the new sepratrons fired! Sending my tug spiraling off into the abyss with two escape pods attached. I'm fairly sure this is an artifact of the staging changes in 0.20. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, and how to fix it?

Thanks,

tjhowse.

I have worked it out. Mechjeb's ascent guidance was disabled, but the "Auto-stage" option was enabled. I disabled auto-stage and now the issue has gone.

Very weird. Should I report this bug in the mechjeb thread?

If you feel like it shouldn't happen, and think it's a bug, go right ahead, especially if the developer is specifically checking/asking for bug reports. (Try to search for a MJ Bug report thread first, too.) Worst case scenario is the developer of the plugin doesn't fix the bug, so there's not too much harm in doing it, I don't think.

I just started playing around with mechjeb and thought that since i wasnt in autopilot it wouldnt auto stage for me. But it does :P When I read your title that was the first thought I had.

Yes at present the ASCENT window that has auto stage in it is a GLOBAL button, so if you do not want other windows to auto stage, make sure that you turn off the auto stage in the ASCENT window.. - What I do is auto stage during ascent, and just before I close the window after reaching orbit I untick the auto stage button, that way usually nothing bad happens when I use other windows..

But as I said above, the developer is aware of this and has mentioned he is thinking of alternatives :)

As I see it's its an bug, accent guidance should not be active then window is hidden.

Anyway accent guidance features should also not be active outside of accent. Throttle settings might be active with window closed, overheat and max g-force limit is nice and an simple function much like engine computers in cars.

One option is to set accent guidance to stop staging at stage 1 or 2, put all emergency systems in stage 0 or 1 and 0 if you separate pod decopler and parachute.

Does this myself after an reuseable lander who could drop outer tanks legs and rcs tanks as an emergency
