Not at all. My tablet screen reader likes to pronounce it Kurr-bles though. Imagine it with a French accent.

Perhaps I could fill you in on how insane the Chobit is? It considers me friendly. In-filling complete.

My record for being awake is 64 hours. Guess I've got you people beat.

You seem quite friendly based on what we've seen of you, so how is thinking that insane?

I've clocked 72 Hours before. Also, I have Kerbal, Kerbals, and Kerman in my browser's dictionary. I also have it in my old typewriter's user dictionary that's on a floppy disk.

Well, I had a case of Mountain Dew, a box fan, a radio, and a Playstation 2 to help me. Yes I still have a PS2. It's lasted so long i've given it the nickname "Old Reliable". My VCR has earned the nickname "Antique Reliable".

I think the longest anyone managed to stay awake for was 11 days.

I remember reading the Muse article about that guy when I was younger.

Which must give y'all a clue as to how old I am, since that issue was many years ago.

Did you know the the Guinness World Records people have removed the record for "longest time spent awake" because people were trying to beat it and ending up dead?

I'm sure. If you don't sleep, eventually your body will not have enough energy to continue bodily function and start to shut down.

They've removed several records like that, and it's a good thing. It isn't safe for humans to be awake more than five days, and most professionals will still say that five days is too much to be considered safe. There are adverse effects that last quite a while even at two days.

Didn't you know, Leon? I'm a knife wielding maniac with access to a well-equipped laboratory. We even have a massive centrifuge, and our area of research has never had a need for centrifuges. That's just the tip of our stupid pile of unnecessary equipment.

Such as Auditory and visual hallucinations, lethargy, extremely short temper and insanity.

You still sound friendly to me. We all wield knifes at some point, for food, and the people in this thread could be considered maniacs, or at least not sane. So in fact, you are quite normal and friendly here.

How did you get all that equipment? I thought there was a global recession and cuts?

I think I'm in love. OK, I'll be honest; I only want you for the lab :P

But yeah, sleep deprivation = bad news. Pulling all-nighters right before exams in college always left me feeling like an absolute mess, but for some reason I never learned come next semester...

Somehow, though, I never actually did badly on the exams themselves.

For proof, I direct you to xkcd

I love how chill he is about the whole thing.

XD

The only thing that screws you up more than sleep deprivation is anesthesia. Dear god that stuff's crazy.

@canopus: YOU'RE TOO LATE MORTAL!

well it not as bad when you hear a pilot say "This is your captain speaking, if you look to the left you can see our engine on fire ,and if you look to the right you can see a poorly built wing torn off." in a really call fashion.

Depends on how many background characters I need.

As for anesthetic making one loopy, all I remember is not being awake more than an hour at a time for several days after the surgery...

I decline anaesthesia whenever possible. Being drowsy makes me feel helpless, and I'd rather experience excruciating pain than a panic attack.

And yeah, there are cutbacks. Most of these things have no resale value, however, and we sort of act like a closet for the other labs to throw old things into when they don't want or need it anymore. Every now or then they drop by with a box of obsolete converters or something, and every now and then they come by and pick them up again. Since my duties are more or less limited to making coffee and checking over the statistics, I don't know a lot about everything that goes into our many unused cupboards.
