.craft to .stl?!

Recommended Posts

I don't have experiance with stl files but, i think it would be possible to export Unity data from a scene using something like the External Lightmapping Tool to a file that can be opened in 3dsmax (.fbx) and then convert it in 3dsmax into .stl .

It would probably would require installing a plugin that would work inside KSP and export data while in flight, and i don't know how hard it would be.

Still i think this method is more doable than trying to work from a .craft file.

craft is a group of different parts, it does nothing to do with a 3d file.

Even in the game, you still have a group of parts, i guess is not possible extract a complete 3d file from a craft.

The only way is to extract each 3d file from all the parts and merge them later in a 3d editor.

Yes, you can find the model files in these folders, specifically for each part, in this case the long fuel tank: GameData\Squad\Parts\FuelTank\fuelTank_long

and the model files are in *.mu format, which I believe is a Squad proprietary format. So even if you had a mesh converter, converting this will only give you THAT tank...unless you have some kind of parser for a *.craft file, that would then merge all your converted *.mu files in a 3D program like Blender or Maya, then you can't do much with them
