The Solar System and What We Know (so far)

For the benefit of the community and due to too much free time I've started compiling all the information we know about planets and their associated features. Some of this information is from memory since a few of the posts were wiped out during the April Kraken attack on the forums. Also some of the information is in the streams and I don't feel like or have the time to watch hours of streams to pick out a couple of minutes of information total. :P If anyone can find more sources I will be very grateful. Until then the information that I remembered but lack a source to will have a (?) out from it. It would also be great if a dev or Nova could correct the information if I got any of it wrong.

=Planet List=

-Molten Dwarf Planet

-Moho

-Eve

(Gilly)

-Kerbin

(Mun)

(Minimus)

-Duna

(Ike)

Asteroid Belt

(Dres)

-Jool

(Vall)

(Laythe)

(Tylo)

(Bop)

(Pol)

Ringed Gas Giant

(Eeloo)

(Ringed Moon)

(Unnamed Moon)

Gas Giant #3

Ice Planet

(Ice Moon)

Gas Giant #4

=Planet Details=

-The molten dwarf planet will be the closest object orbiting the sun and will be orbiting very close. (?) It will be tidally locked with the sunny side being mostly molten. (?) The dwarf planet will have a super-heated atmosphere, causing space craft to overheat if not careful. (?)

-Eve will have a radioactive and toxic atmosphere and the oceans are made of a hot, radioactive sludge. (?) The atmosphere and sky will be covered in a thick haze/smog which will greatly limit surface visibility and create a dimly lighted surface. (?) There will be a few clouds in the upper atmosphere and occasional lightning storms. (?) The upper atmosphere will be extremely windy and turbulent while the surface climate and weather will be mostly static, there will be an air uplift over the oceans due to the heated nature of the radioactive sludge heating the air over the ocean. (?)

-Kerbin will be like Earth, multi-biome weather, rain, wind, storms, snow. (?)

-Laythe's surface will be heavily radiated from Jool's magnetic field, the ocean is a water-ammonia mix, allowing it to stay liquid below normal freezing temperatures. It will have volcanic activity. The planet will be heavily covered in clouds and the weather will be windy and stormy. (?)

-The gas giant after Jool will be larger than Jool and have rings. (?)

-Eeloo will eventually become a moon of the ringed gas giant. (?) There will be active ice Geysers. (?)

Agreed AmpsterMan. I kinda/sorta hoped devs would include new planet or a moon somewhere as a surprise bonus to 0.20 - just like Eeloo was added. Alas... I still need to send manned missions to Moho and Eeloo, but perspective of a ringed gas giant...:D There will be some pretty sights to see there - thats for sure.

I really can't wait until they start uploading new planets again. 0.17 was so exciting when it was released :D

Likewise, it will be worth the wait when they do start to release the planets again. Also on a related note, I wonder if Nova was ever able to create lava? I remember he had trouble with that.

I hope they don't do any more planets and moons... UNTIL they can get the clouds, and lava and cryovolcanism and all that stuff working.

We don't need any more rocks, but I'd love to have some different planets.

but I think they've pushed all of that back till they get career mode working.

What good are new planets if the existing ones serve no purpose. Would you rather have 10 Muns and 10 Dunas or 1 Mun & 1 Duna where you can colonize( landing a hitchker pod w. 4 kerbals doesn't count as colonization), harvest its resources, or establish a purposeful base.

Sights mostly. And a challenge. Jool and Eeloo force you to use every bit of engineering skills to make decent ship. Another gas giant beyond Jool's orbit would be a tough nut to crack at first. Motership able to go there, do some exploring and return to Kerbin would have to be enormous...or very cleverly designed. And i would love to see both kinds of designs :P

Maybe we already have new planets/moons but haven´t yet discovered it?

They said in one of the talks prior to 0.18, that from now on they wouldn´t tell us anymore when they introduce new planets/moons (and that we would have discover them for ourselves if there are new ones) ... so maybe there are already new planets/moons waiting for our discovery since 0.19/0.20

If they did already add new planets it would be nearly or completely impossible to get to them (unless you send a probe or something small and light). Eeloo is already pushing it and requires a massive contraption of a rocket to get to.

A "Counter-Kerbin" would be rather hard to find, if it wasn't already on the map.
